Cant see the problem - can provide the original springs and ECU if they wanted (cant reuse the Group N on another car anyway). Not like the cars been devalued by having an ironing board bolted onto the hatch or something.
Anyone care to suggest a reasonable trade-in value for my Mk2 172 against a 182 Cup? Spec as below:
Reg 09/2001 (51), one owner, 17K miles, iceberg silver, FRSH with supplying dealer, full 172 spec, Supagard, exc condition.
Mods: Eibach Prokit springs, Hillpower Group N ECU.
Cheers, Gareth
G techs come up on ebay quite often. They take power from the lighter socket which is no good for me (172 + Caterham) so I bought a Racetech which is self-contained.
Jonnyboy - would you say that decat makes a big difference? I have a 172 Mk2 with Group N ECU only, and 0-60 is around 7.25s according to my Racetech.

Thought it was the air filter element that was replaced at 12K, not the pollen filter??
My local dealer forgot to order in the filter so just missed it out of the service. They had to own up when I pointed it out - I got them to come round to my house and fit it. They also left the oil filler...
Hi,
Does this work okay in the 172? When I tried my handheld GPS inside the car I found it pretty tricky to pick up any satellites - only seemed to work around the non-metallized window at the front edge of the windscreen.
Where do you put your GPS receiver for decent results?
Cheers,
Gareth
Thanks for the info. Getting Tarox brakes and Eibach Pro kit fitted today, so will let them know. Main reason for going with LV is they dont keep ramping up the premium every time you fit something new - Direct Line charge minimum 10% of annual premium for every mod :@.

hmmm... wonder how you photograph a Group N ECU .
I guess that relates to whether the value of the mods is taken into account in a claim. Im more worried about the insurers trying to wriggle out of honouring a claim after discovering undisclosed mods.
Just started a policy with LV on my 172. I declared a couple of mods when they gave me the quote (IK and chip). However, neither of these are mentioned in the paperwork. Phoned them yesterday and it sounded like they had lost the info about the mods. In any case, didnt affect the premium so the...
Thought so - ATS quote £26 but not sure if comparing like with like.
Incidentally, £160 + VAT (4 hours) to fit front disks/pads and Eibach springs... bit steep as well?
Just been quoted this by local garage for my 172... seems expensive to me but havent checked ATS etc. The MOT guy detected some uneven tyre wear and suggested tracking.
Theyre not just any old garage (Prosport in Stockport - scooby specialists really) and will certainly do a good job, still...
My dealer have just agreed to do this under warranty - took them a few days to get the okay from Renault UK. My 172 is 34 months old. Weird thing is the headlamps coming on all the time now...
One of my headlights (Mk2 172) only comes on intermittently - probably the ballast resistor (seen it called the starter pack on here). The car is under 3 years old (just) and has only done 13K miles.
The dealer is claiming that headlights are not covered by the warranty and I may have to pay...
I have a Mk2 172 and had the Hillpower Group N ECU and IK fitted at the beginning of the year. To be honest I found the effects to be marginal to non-existent. Re the rpm it is no different at idle from before, but the rev limit is indeed higher. Sometimes the idle rpm tends to search/pulse a...
So was there a 172-specific version of the Pro kit?
15mm seems like too small a drop. I thought the point of lowering the car was to lower the CoG thus reducing load transfer to the outside wheels during cornering, thus improving grip... on this basis surely lower is better (until other...
Not been on here for a while and the search engine is down at the moment, so...
A while back I heard that Eibach were planning a 172-specific version of their Pro spring kit. Did this happen? Any good?
If not, what are the other options? I want to get the CoG down on my 172 and firm up the...
Hi,
Ive noticed that a little paint is starting to come away from the front wheelarch (nearside only) of my 2001 172. Its only at the bottom, obviously getting hit by stones etc. I had this on another car but it was new enough to get it repainted under warranty and then they stuck on some...
Thanks
Im feeling drawn to the Sportlines to go on my 172 for road and occasional trackdays. Ive still got the OEM 16s so hopefully it wouldnt be too harsh a ride.
Lookers Macclesfield didnt change my air filter at 12K. I made them bring it round to the house and fit it :). I also claimed £35 back off them after I found they had left the oil filler cap off and let oil bubble out all over the place :@...
