I mean, I know what Group N is in rallying terms, but I just wondered what the Renaultsport Group N ECU was actually created for? For the Cup racers perhaps, or is that a different one again? Btw I have one of these on my mk2 172...
Theres a way to disable the auto-sensing on the wipers and give the control back to the good old driver. Can anyone remind me of what to do? I think it involves switching ignition on/off a few times....
Thanks for the reply. Do you have the 97 compound (which is strictly a race pad) or the "street" version? If the 97, has this affected your disks at all?
Looking for a pad that works with the OEM disks but is resistant to fade on track. Standard pad is more than enough for road use IMO...
Thats what I have, but I didnt expect to hear people talking about performance losses! Apparently Hillpower will be doing these in carbon fibre shortly.
Yep - saw the inlet manifold when I was there. However, Ill need some convincing before chucking any more money at the little 172.
Thinking about it I reckon it is a bit quicker with the current setup - enough to make it even more edgy than it was before .
Neil,
Im with you on the relative difference between stock and group n, i.e. very little to nothing. I guess I was persuaded that it was a good idea to deal with the potential problem of leaning out at high revs with the induction kit.
Keep telling myself its all just snake oil, but cant...
Thanks for the comments.
It is a MK2 172.
If blocked injectors (even with Optimax) how do I sort this (assume total stupidity!)? Actually I doubt this is the case as it was fine before fitting the ecu.
Not much difference performance wise at normal road speeds, though the missus thinks...
Has been run from new on 100% Optimax. Wouldnt that do the job of keeping the injectors clean?
On the other hand - it has had very light use... 8000 miles in two years, mainly local. Could be getting a bit cacked up.
Had the group n ecu from Nick a few weeks ago. Have noticed that cold idling is now a bit odd. After driving along and then say pulling up at lights, the revs tend to surge to 1500 or so and then settle back down again. This is very noticable when crawling in a queue of traffic - each time you...
First few segments of the gauge go down rapidly (first 75 miles or so) then it slows down. Trip computer is the best indicator of how much is left. I get around 30mpg on average.
Im happy enough with mine - way better than the Contis. A snip at £200 for a set of 16s (all in). Good value compared to the £800 I had to pay for a set of 18" F1s a month later for the other car .
Does anyone know what pressure suits the Toyos on track?
Hi,
I had some work done recently on my Mk2 172 and the main connector to the horn was left off. I believe I need to go in through the dirt guard on the passenger side to get at it. Can anyone give me a bit of advice on this?
Thanks,
Gareth
Hi,
Ive bought a replacement headlamp washer jet for my MK2 172 (some plonker reversed into the old one and snapped the end off). Looks like the old one should just prise off and the new one push on, but it doesnt want to budge. Any tips on how this comes off?
Thanks,
Gareth
Just had the following from Hillpower: induction kit, cold air feed from scoop in wheelarch, silicon inlet hose and group N ECU. Cant say it transforms the car but definitely has added "something". The noise takes a bit of getting used to!
Was in touch with them this week about this very thing. Full system with concealed tailpipe and a silencer - i.e. the quiet version - should be available around Feb 04. This was for a MK2 172.
interesting...
I didnt think trackday insurance covered what you did to other peoples cars, just any damage incurred to your own. So, its your own cover that pays out if some muppet hits your car.
My 172 came with Contis but I ditched them after 7000 miles for Proxes. Fronts had worn down really quickly and grip was v poor. Proxes not my favourite tyre but cheap at the time!
so whats my immaculate one-owner 51 plate MK2 172 with 9800 miles worth, either private or PX? Interested in knowing because Im thinking of trading up and trying to set a budget...
Adam,
I was looking into the self-same mods for my 172. After much consideration Ive decided to go for the induction kit and Group N ECU from Hillpower instead.
For starters, if you search for ABP on here you wont find much positive comment. Basically its because Hillpower are Renault...
Hi,
I just cant get used to the size of the steering wheel on my Phase II 172. Are there any decent alternatives, i.e. classy, still airbagged?
Its the chunkiness of the centre section that gets me more than the overall size - cant see the instruments half the time! Guess Im looking for...
