Final bit for the day as time is short. One front assembled.
All reassembled. Top nut with Loctite to make sure it stays. Next task is to crack the hub nuts and get the old Sachs dampers off and tucked away but that will have to wait. 4 weeks before the track day so need to get a crack on...
If I’m going to do this I’ll do it right. Some roll centre hubs collected and ready.
Staring with the rear. Get the springs on
And fitted.
I used Powerflex purple top bushes simply because they were on the car previously.
With the other side done it seems to sit at a nice height :-) we’ll...
Start of the year I felt the need to get a track day car. I had some suspension and thought rather than sell it I’d use it.
I went searching for a cheapish and good condition track focused Clio. Something with many of the right modifications already done.
I got a call from a friend about a car...
I’m not convinced 2.5” systems are a great idea for most of our lightly tuned engines. They are louder and certainly boom more than a 2 1/4 system. I don’t think there’s a power gain.
Only real solution is a good size centre silencer.
As for the missus. Paracetamol is your friend.
Race version flywheel would not even be able to be fitted to a standard clutch cover. The race clutches are significantly smaller diameter so the bolt holes are different and the flywheel friction surface is smaller diameter to match.
The Grams springs are my brand :D They match well with standard dampers and koni adjustables and importantly get the car in a lower stance than the Eibach will.
How old was the original clutch plate? People do like to reuse them when fitting helix clutch plates rather than replace so fatigue is possible but rare.
I personally use Loctite on parts. I also prefer to replace bolts too as these cars are old and I dont know history of little items like...
It makes a difference. It depends though how sensitive you are.
When I purchased my Clio it was the first thing I went hunting for.
We do a lowering spring and damper refresh kit all discounted...Grams springs so lower than the Eibach and a nicer ride than the H&R
Thats the man :D He's fast so hopefully shines and the team dont get into any trouble. Its silly difficult to get a drive at Le Mans so he's certainly wishing for a good race :D
Trophy Springs were yellow :D
But in this case more likely to be Apex.
Prolines are actually called Pro-Kit springs - Not really sure why everyone calls them Proline. I know its picky but for some reason it really bugs me like nails down a blackboard lol
Theres enough of them being broken for parts that a replacement engine will not cost the earth. If the rest of the car is in good conditon then it may be worth saving.
You have a known quantity. Delving into ownership of another car may or may not work out...
Metallic pads conduct heat into the caliper piston more than ceramic. This is the trade off to some extent for better bite and modulation the metallic compounds give.
This is not an issue solely with CL but Winmax, Pagid and all the other higher end manufacturers using metallic blends in the...
This time of year is the hardest on brakes. Spend some money. Move to a proper pad compound. Try Winmax W6 - its not cheap but similar price to DS1.11 but with more bite.
You spend 99% more than 99% of Clio owners lol
DS2500 and even Mintex M1144 are a little dead on the pedal but they work well enough. I think I may swap out for PBS pads for road use to see if they work better for me before I go full bore with track pads and suspension
Compared to a modern car its not fast.
I have a modern turbo BMW and quite frankly I get in to the Clio and am initially disappointed. I hate the VVT characteristics and lack of excitment engine wise.
Then I have a brain reset and realise its not about accelerating fast but maintaining speed...
Standard is what its rated for :D
I think you can get away with one on a tuned normally aspirated car but its got a limited lifespan with a turbo unless you drive everywhere on part throttle
Its the torque that gets them
What brand were they using? They have not used the RTS clutch I think :D Theres basically numerous ways to build these type of clutches. Helix and many others just do a very basic alteration in the clutch cover finger thickness and springs to change the clamping load but you can also change...
We do a custom RTS clutch for the turbo conversion. We dont try to supply race clutches for road use. Instead the clutch drives as near to a standard clutch as we could get it but still providing clamping for the torque of a turbo.
In what situation is it stepping out?
If its under braking - are you driving it like a kart? The Clio will have a lot of weight transfer forward under braking with standard suspension so its possible to upset the rear in a straight line
The other potential issue is lift off oversteer. How are...
