It was a genuine question.
It's not for me to try to convince you otherwise. It is worth pointing out that a classic Impreza will feel very different to a WR1. But if you didn't like the WR1 you probably won't like an even older car.
FWIW I've driven a brand-new Mk7 Golf R for 800 miles...
That's either a v5 or a V6 Type R. The most desirable Impreza this side of a 22b.
What makes these special other than the light weight and nimble feel of all classics is the centre diff with 66% rear torque bias. The UK market P1 was based on these but didn't come with the diff.
Yep, been going to the highlands regularly since well before the NC500 was a thing. The section of A435 north of Ullapool is my favourite bit of the NC500. Although my favourite roads in the highlands aren’t on it: the Old Military Road, the “Scotsburgring” circumnavigating Loch Leven, the...
That sounds like the kind of debate I would enjoy
The B4391 from Bala to Porthmadog comes a close second, and I am fond of the roads around Moffat and Selkirk and in the Pennines, but nothing beats the A939 especially the northernmost section.
Fortunately for me, Henry Catchpole agrees (y)
Some more retail therapy thanks to RPD, and another visit to AW Motorworks, New radiator and AC condenser/dryer fitted. New OEM wishbones and ball joints and inner/outer track rod ends, Powerflex purple ARB bushes and new ARB clamps, and my suspension refresh is complete.
Following Alex's...
One of the reasons why Clios don‘t fetch good prices is because they haven’t been advertised properly.
People spending £8k on a Clio aren’t considering cheap cars on eBay or buying on Facebook groups.
When was the last time you saw a really good advert for a mk2 Clio?
Collecting Cars shows...
Surely the actual sale price of an actual car with a very similar spec is a better benchmark than social-media speculation.
I personally wouldn't pay too much credence to the opinion of existing owners, many of whom have become accustomed to prices being 2-3k for 10+ years and therefore find it...
I've never driven a valver. What's the performance like compared to a 182? My 182 offers about the minimum level of performance I need in a car...don't think I could go much lower.
Wouldn't buy from a dealer personally. Other than not wanting to pay the premium I like to suss out the seller.
If you're not in the Facebook Clio groups you should be - more cars get advertised there than on Autotrader or eBay or the like,
They are indeed built into the gaiter. https://www.renaultpartsdirect.co.uk/parts/steering-suspension/renault-clio-172-182-front-shock-absorber-gaitor/
If you're only advertising here then you're not targeting the right people.
A lot of people here prefer standard cars and originality. I'd suggest posting on the specialist track-car-for-sale groups on Facebook.
And as others have mentioned, change the wheels, spend an hour cleaning up the...
Apparently car dealers are doing gangbusters business so it could be a temporary bubble post lockdown. Or we could be seeing a tipping point as these cars and their parts all now approach 15+ years old and scarcity starts to become felt.
There's been some scepticism at asking prices recently. So interesting to note that a one-owner 49k miles 172 Cup sold on Collecting Cars for £7,675.
There's an additional 6% fee to the buyer, so the total buying price is £8,135.
This is for a car that has mismatching tyres, several MoT...
The strut is under a lot of load. Disconnecting the anti-roll bar helps. If you do hammer them out be careful as the bolts are soft iron and the threads can be easily damaged.
A trip to AW Motorworks (highly recommended!) has flagged that my car has been fitted with the earlier (low caster) design of wishbones, probably pattern parts. And the wishbone bushes are well past their best. Makes sense given the vagueness I've been feeling on turn-in, and also the car...
I remember your thread on PH on the silver Turbo 2000. Minter.
My car history also includes various Imprezas (including a 1993 v1 RA and a 1999 v5 RA) and an E39 (M5).
Thanks Simon for adding some great insight to the thread. My choice to move away from the AST rears is in no way a reflection of the quality of the gear, which I know to be excellent.
If you haven't already then try a trackday with what you already have. That will give you a baseline for comparison and will guide you on future mods. Suspension setup is a very personal thing and what works for others might not work for you.
Having said that, here is my (personal) opinion...
C5 is incredible but you have to put the effort into prep. Actually straight from the coaters is the perfect time to apply as you don’t have to bother with the decontamination you would have to do otherwise.
