Yeah. I could do the odd track day at Forrestburn hillclimb or kames but it will be a road car. Going to keep it original and unmodified. Keeps the cost down and stops me going mental with it.

Bought this last week. It was local. A bit over priced but managed to get home down a fair bit to do a deal. Never liked new minis really. But the supercharged R53 is the only one I’ve contemplated owning over the years. I’ve always found minis way overpriced but these are cheap now.
It’s...
First mods complete last night.
Before and after pick.
Makes a huge difference to how the van looks. Could prob go a bit lower but I’m going to get from front shock relocation plates (Shane’s scarface lowrider plates) and shorten the ARB links before going any lower at the front.
The rear...
Think that part is the “acoustic valve”. Also on 172/182s and just makes the induction noice louder at low RPM as far as I remember.

I’m really surprised with how good they are on fuel. Had mine 18 months. Through the summer driving it fast now and then I’m getting 28mpg. You’ve got to remember it’s a 3ltr engine. I used to get 25mpg out of a 2ltr Passat estate back in the day and it was boring as hell.
For the last month...
I’m scene as well. Hence I’ve moved from making my T4 nice to slamming it. Sticking some banded steels on and leaving the bodywork rough as toast.

Not really a fan of yellow headlamps but I think it does need something to break up what is quite a plain colour scheme.

Might look better with a smaller wheel. What are they 16’s?
Lower with a smaller wheel would ride ok as well. With the old minis I’ve owned the smaller wheels with a bigger tyre wall have always had the best ride. Sure it applies to all cars.

Considering the weight and size I think it’s not bad. Does that include insurance.
Another company I use for smaller car parts is “parcel2go”. You could always put the details in there and see if any of the couriers on that service will do up to the weight of a gearbox.

Gives me the fear watching people race them. Every ones I’ve seen has a roll cage so lo that the drivers helmets sits above it.
But you see what I mean here. Standard mx5s doing 96s laps at kames. Fast as a a very well sorted clio 172 (ITBs, diff, lightweight panels etc) and a civic type R...
Mx5’s are extremely competitive in hillclimbs and sprints that I enter. I wouldn’t under estimate them.
Up here the Scottish hillclimb championship has a dedicated class for them because they are so popular. It’s a proper drivers car and the class is set up such that no modifications are...
What do you get again? Different driving styles etc but I get a stead 28mpg. Mix of driving on road. Nothing on track. Standard m140i with the auto box and m performance exhaust (which I’m thinking of selling).

To be fair most of the cars on that list would decimate a trophy over a B road. 172 cup excluded. But the 1*2s would both be great fun while doing it.

Does it have to have a hatch?
The Mini Cooper started it all really. Small family car winning races and rallies at the weekend.

It’s a hot hatch. Just feels different from a clio / fiesta obviously.
Like I said earlier. There are probably two categories of hot hatch these days. There probably always was to be fair.
Split them in size / power. Or on price. Gets you into a much more logical list of what’s good in each...
