Where do you race? And why is your mate in a hurry?
Seriously though, enjoy the car as it is, they are great out of the box. Take it from somone who has been there, spend your money on travel, broaden your horizons, save up for a rainy day.
Or, and this is a serious suggestion, it is often said...
Isn't your insurance invalid if you have no MOT? I know this could apply in the OP's case but having an appointment to get one may be an adequate mitigating point/defence.
I'm 35.
It is interesting sometimes to learn of members' ages as it can throw some light on why people post in the way they do and what they post about. Life experience and all that.
I got it from a large B&Q store. It is described as an enamel spray paint.
It was a small can about 3/4 inches tall and cost just under £4, so you may need more than one. It states on it that it is for craft/model making etc.
It was a shame my painting skills were poor as it gave me the cool...
I'd ask the same question about the gear knob! Metal ball for phase 1 (like all the great cars have), strange wedge shaped soft lump of crap for phase 2.
Be aware, titanium silver has a heavy metallic fleck in it and won't look right on a door handle unless the car itself is titanium. I tried that colour for a similar project but didn't like it. Maybe try ixell 205-88 which is the standard silver alloy wheel colour, may be less metallic.
I was just going to let you know that the first owner was a "Kathy" and did a lot of circuit work straight after the car was bought (Brands, Snetterton, Rockingham).
The second owner, on registering it, posted the comment "Grrrrr" (presumably on learning a bit about its previous life)!
Ring them and ask what number it is. ClioTrophy.net has an owners' log and that can reveal some interesting history if it is has been put on there.
Is this Evans Halshaw an official Renault franchise? If so, this is rather cheap for the mileage!
The Nurburgring sticker puts me off as does the...
I tried to find this out a while back with no luck. I don't think you will be able to get a colour code for it unless someone corrects me on that.
I think Renault probably use an enamel type paint. I have seen a Plastikote silver modelling enamel paint can which gives a similar brushed/matt...
You could ring up and ask. The sorts of questions I would be asking are:
Is it a genuine one owner car (i.e. the vehicle has never been transferred)?
What's the nature of the history - main dealer/indy/mixed. Are there corresponding receipts/MOTs? Any details of cambelt(s) - would be on to...
Yep, completely agree. The hardest thing about finding one is one that hasn't been taken to bits every other week with "mates" lending a hand!
The link at my post number 23 does look seriously interesting though. Standard ride height (i.e. not slammed), 1 owner, FSH (would need to interrogate...
Long way from you but this looks interesting:

I must say, ICE aside, that would catch my eye if I were looking.
He is the third owner (had it a few years), FRSH (inc. cambelt), looks reasonably tidy bar the ICE.
Yep, just get a standard clean 172, phase 2.
Make sure it has a good detailed service history, ideally not too many owners (check how long the last owner kept it).
You may want to check the last owner's age if you can.
Anything left over can be used to deal with the inevitable little bits that...
If you're in the West Midlands, Fred at BTM Performance is your closest specialist. I use him for my Trophy and he's very very good.
As for what you need doing, it depends on the car's history to date, if you have details.
For a basic service, you should get the following done: Oil, oil...
Well said. It's been going that way for a while. People buy them (because they are cheap for a performance car), ruin them by "modifying" but neglecting good maintenance, then trying to sell them. It's a downward spiral. It's also why the model's reputation suffers.
That's why it is proving...
Reckoned to be one of the best Renaultsport models.
Just spend the money on getting her nice and tidy, always use good tyres, find a decent specialist for servicing/maintenance and enjoy.
Oh, forgot one.
The RS Tuner RON 98 map is how it should have come from the factory, makes the car soooo much more driveable and smooths out the daft 5,000 rpm jolt/kick as well as improving fuel consumption slightly.
Front splitter, Eibach Sportlines, anthracite for the wheels (if you must) but NOT black.
Then leave it alone. They are quite brilliant as standard (assuming it is otherwise mechanically standard). Save the money for running it and if that is surprisingly cheap, spend the money on travel...
