Graham's summer 172 cup track car

Thank you everyone for the kind comments :) I'm a bit behind the videos so here is the one of me building the engine :) Snetterton 29th February In the build to Saturday there were still a few small things to sort and thankfully I had a couple of spare days leave to get them done. First up...

    Bleeding abs pump CLIP

the procedure in clip is as follows. I did mine with Clip recently with a pressure bleeder also attached for the second stage. for each caliper you need to get out approx 200ml for the fluid to have fully passed from the MC to the bleed nipple. I did two passes on the bleeding section (second...

Graham's summer 172 cup track car

Let start where I left off, at the end of last weekend with quite a list of things to do. After having them for years, with the removal of the bonnet release cable I had no choice but to finally fit some Aerocatches, god that's a rubbish job! Sadly on the Sunday despite my best efforts I just...

Graham's summer 172 cup track car

Interior The interior has now been finished off nicely and even if I say so myself the dash pod is wicked. As always, I've wired everything up to maintain the OEM modular wiring and added connection blocks to the pod to make sure it could be removed easily. On the pod I've got a switch for the...

Graham's summer 172 cup track car

Time for an update on here as I can't tolerate being in the garage for a minute more! Progress over the past couple of weeks has been a little slower than planned but thankfully I'd built some flexibility in to the schedule which now means we've used up all the extra time to get jobs done...

Graham's summer 172 cup track car

Few quick updates while I'm on the PC. I've had a couple of days off work to try and make some headway and keep to my schedule but even with this extra time it's not easy! Got the turbo back from Alex on Saturday. He changed the backplate after I broke it getting the core out of the turbine...

    EPAS plugs already in loom??

The factory wiring uses 80a but there was some misunderstanding when EPAS conversions were first done.

    EPAS plugs already in loom??

I wouldn't use the brown outer but instead swap it to one which does fit on your fuseboard. For mine I used the double orange connector which there was a space for on the cup. Excuse the incorrect 60A fuse!

Mine with a full cage, stripped is 996kg and about half tank.

    EPAS plugs already in loom??

I'm back. I would use the spare one you have and swap the blade from the brown plug. it's 7mm squared so diameter is about 3mm. It's only the EPAS wire which is 7mm. The other power wires running into the bulkhead connector are 5mm^2

    EPAS plugs already in loom??

Confusion caused by me! it's actually a brown one. That was just representing the part. Only the brown one from an EPAS equipped car is the right diameter, 7mm^2

    EPAS plugs already in loom??

Yep that adds up, my cup was the same. It just needs the power wire running from the engine fuseboard into the r107. You will still have to run the control box and splice the wires from the sensor on the column. That's good because it will already be connected into the diagnostic network and...

Graham's summer 172 cup track car

Thanks matey. Yeah just a hone and 0.006” skim on the sump and top deck to clean it up. Standard pistons cleaned up with new rings to make it nice and fresh in the bores.

    172 engine into 182?

correct, don't replace the cam cover as it's line bored with the head and therefore they come as a matched pair.

Cheers dude. Me too they're rather nice. Thanks Gus, it took quite a while to get all the bits together and them prepared for assembly. Many many months coming to a head over one short day. Quickjack lift

Automotech ones are awesome, £475 for the adjustable ones and particularly if you us it in it's tilting mode you can get the car really high. I like the quickjack. Only the price puts me off.

Graham's summer 172 cup track car

The engine build went really well apart from one point where I mixed up the 2nd and 3rd rod caps causing them to catch on the crank. This is where Alex's experience really kicked in and he knew exactly how much lateral movement the rods were meant to have and we pinpointed the issue quickly...

Thanks matey, it's certainly time consuming but the end result should be good :) Thanks Dave, detail is an enemy and blessing of this current build but I'm doing it once and once only so it has to be good!

Martin's Track Clio 182 Project Thread

Oh lord don't get me re-evaluating. That Brian Cox video had me totally convinced that painting it black would be a bad idea but I would definitely prefer to have it stealth. Let see what I do with mine now ;) That was a long read Mark! The OCD has rubbed off on me now..it's becoming quite an...
