If you want some budget competitive motorsport lookup your local motor sport club and they'll have access to autosolo, autotests, 12 car rallies - all of which you can do in a std car without a special license or equipment. Then you have sprinting/hill climbs which you can do in a std car but...
With the bumper off you can access the catch with a long screwdriver from the front. If you shine a torch in there you can see a small letter box shaped hole in the slam panel. You can see the mechanism through there. Screw driver and hammer towards passenger side and it will release.
I use Michelin PS3 in autosolos that have 1A restrictions. Michelin PSS might also be an option. The old AD08 would have been an obvious choice but now they're AD08R they're 1B. You might find some of the old non R versions about somewhere.
Looks good Sonny. I was very tempted by James' engine should be a goodun'
Edit: just seen your update - solid results and should be good and reliable.

Maybe they're selling well on the continent like some people say.
Most modern cars actually generate lift so countering that with a small wing and splitter can be beneficial. I don't know the specifics on a clio though.
Bad news.
I'd echo others in suggesting just throw a std second hand engine in, don't even bother putting cams in, tweak the map and just enjoy it. You'll only be 10bhp down.
I don't think I've known a single high comp build last more than a few months on here. For the gains it is not worth the...
Personally I find removing the box in situ on a driveway/without a ramp so fiddly I'd just pull the engine and box out the top as it is quicker and less time lying under the car.
@Budgie does it without removing subrame or engine.
