Not sure if this a well known thing, but I bought a little Fuji X-M1 as a back up the other day from Amazon, it dropped £40 a few days after I bought it, I asked nicely and they've given me £40 back :) Apparently their general rule is to give a refund within 7 days of delivery if the price drop...
Any suggestions for good resources/blogs/books for using flash/speedlights? I've decided 2014 is the year I'm going to learn some of the more technical aspects of photography (I'm self taught), flash is the thing I'm most scared of, so it seemed like a good starting point. I've literally taken...
I would respectfully disagree with that, good lenses/bodies/AF make things easier, but they don't make anything possible that wouldn't be on much, much cheaper gear, particularly for subjects like night or motorsport photography where good knowledge and ability would rank well above equipment...
Been a a weird year, collectively very pleased with my photos, but no real individual stand-out images, these are probably my favourites...

The Holburne in Bath has it's annual art installation open, not as good as previous years but bloody bright!

Oddly my Dad mentioned this as soon as he saw it, it never crossed my mind to be honest. The helicopters flying very very low over Manhattan during the marathon felt strange though, usually it's pretty much a complete no fly zone.

Our 7th trip to New York in the past 10 years, had a big list of different things to see/do this time which we mostly covered. Took my D600, 28mm 1.8 and 180mm 2.8, really nice and relatively light combo.

I'm in the 'don't really get it' camp, unfortunately. As much as I love all the manual dials and still struggle to live without them having gone from an X100/X-E1 to a D600, I still can't even vaguely see where the cost is justified.
I would no doubt love using it, but it's silly money for...
Really, really happy with it. I think I might have to go with a back-up D7000 or something for motorsport (lots of very narrow aperture shooting) next year as presumably dust will become an issue, but the D600 is a keeper for everything else for sure. Love the handling and it's just effortless...
180mm was £325 used, an absolute steal. I had the funds for a 70-200, but I love primes and wanted something I can take everywhere, it was even smaller than I expected when it arrived. Will get some on-camera pics later.
Where is that price out of interest? I got mine at £1200 the other day, pleased enough with that as each time I've looked at these even cheaper deals they've been gone instantly.
Fantastic track shots Tom, this time of year is by far the best for light.
A quick couple from the park this morning...

No I was on my way to the paddock at the time, sounded great though. Loved the sound of the new XKR-S GT as well, a shame only 10 are being made for the UK so never likely to see one again!
Thoughts welcome, trying to do a bit more paddock/static stuff to keep things fresh for myself, and seeing what I can do around the circuit without resorting to panning...

I think a flat surface (wooden chopping board is a good shout) would show it off better personally. I can't quite put my finger on it but the angle doesn't feel quite right, a slightly wider shot with the hole fully visible seems better in my head.
A very very temporary setup! Moving from Fuji to full-frame as I have weddings etc next year, but the 300 was so cheap I thought it would be fun for Rallyday, I've just sold it for a very decent profit, only had it for two weeks.
I have on the way:
Canon 5D, 50mm 1.4, 100mm f2 and a Sigma...
Thoughts welcome on these, haven't shot a day of motorsport on a DSLR for about 6 months, good fun getting back into it. All taken with a D7000 and Nikon 300mm f4.

Love the 'go hard or go home' attitude, it's hard work but so rewarding. The pans are really nice, but I actually really like the Ginettas and tunnel shots!
