Actually 7j is only on the later Clio RS. Phase 1 had 6.5 x 15 rims. My car has 195/50 x 15 Toyo R1-R tyres fitted. Centres are 60.1 mm. Go too wide and the tyres catch on the arches. I've got a set of wolfrace 17 rims with 205/40 x17 tyres fitted. They fill the arches but driving on the limit...
The renaultsport Clios are built for hard driving straight out of the box do I really don't understand why anyone would want to interfere with the brake set up. It's asking for trouble if you start messing about with it. You're more likely to have a crash because the braking has been altered. I...
What's the point ? I've still got ABS and it's saved me a couple of times on track when I've hit standing water. I've done 15 trackdays in my Clio and wouldn't dream of getting rid of ABS. Get some race pads all round and braided lines with performance brake fluid.
Once the fuel warning light is on the computer doesn't tell you how many miles to fill up. Usually it's when 2 gallons are left in the tank which equates to around 60 to 65 miles. My Trafic does the same thing and the Nissan I had previous to the Trafic was the same trip computer. As someone...
Did anyone get any photos of my 172? Had a great afternoon. The grip was really good after lunch. I was taking corners at much higher speeds than I've done before. The left before shell I was taking in 4th with just a dab on the brakes at the top of the lakeside straight. Also the engine felt...
Mine gives a bit of a cloud of steam until the exhaust warms up but other than that there's no smoke. If its smoking under heavy acceleration then its likely to be burning oil. I'd look for another one that doesn't smoke.
Mine runs smooth when its cold since the cambelt and dephaser pulley were done. It used to be a bit lumpy under power until it got warm but thats gone as well. I can leave it idling outside while I clean it and its sweet as a nut.
If the work has all been done to repair the engine then it sounds a bargain. As long as it drives ok and it all works then why not. Mine is a phase 1 and its been a great car to own.
I used R1-R tyres at Oulton park a couple of weeks ago in the wet and they were awesome. No loss of grip at all and the tyres still look like new. I've done two track days with them on and I'm well impressed. T1-R's are good but they wear quickly.
The exhaust doesn't droop in the middle on mine. It's just the difference between a discreet back box and one that sits under the rear bumper. Obviously the new one is a different shape and shows at the back so its going to catch on anything that's sticking up.
Its sorted now thanks. Treated myself to Scorpion Stainless steel cat back system from Demon Tweeks. Sounds great and looks good. I'm a bit concerned about the way it hangs below the bumper though. I'll have to be careful if I take the car into the forests on stage rallies when I go marshalling.
My Ph1 172 has 122,000 on it now and it still goes like stink. I had the belts and dephaser done a few months ago and fitted K-Tec engine mountings, braided lines and dot 5 fluid. The car has been brilliant over the last three and a half years. I was at the Northwest Stages on Saturday with it...
Its all a case of keeping the speed sensible and drive as smoothly as possible in snow. Some all weather tyres will improve the grip. I was out last night in the Trafic that I use as a taxi driving on ice and slush and that was fine as long as I took things gently. Steering inputs need to be...
I would sell the car complete. My 172 is on 122,000 now and its got plenty of life left. I've done 14 track days in the last three and a half years and many long distance trips without any dramas. There's bound to be plenty of people wanting a track car. Your's fits the bill and has had all the...
Does anyone know if the centre section of the exhaust on a 172 Ph1 is Renault only? Mine snapped yesterday and I seem to recall last time it went I had to get a new one from main dealer. The one on the car has lasted over 3 years. Any suggestions anyone?
Neil Roper is one of the top cylinder head engineers in the UK. Any work done by him is always top notch. He's a real nice guy as well. I'd recommend him to anyone wanting a top job done on a head.
Not used K-Tec but heard they're good. What about Mark Fish? Not sure where he's based. My mate has a rolling road at Rainham Essex. Track n Road and Race Engine Calibration. Steve Greenald. 07774773824
I'm 54 and have owned my 172 Phase One for three and a half years. It's a total blast to drive. I've done 14 trackdays in it and it's never missed a beat on the track. My daughters all say it's the best car I've ever had. They're all in their 20's now. I've had allsorts of family cars over the...
That looks bloody awful. There's a Clio in Chester with some weird bodykit on it. It's purple and red. It looks ridiculous. The whole thing looks home-made.
You should take it easy if the bolts have gone really tight to remove. Use penetrating oil on the threads and work the bolts in and out a bit at a time. Once you get the bolts out clean the threads up and put a bit of copper grease on them before putting them back. I always put the bar back in...
I've got a set of R1-R's on my 172. They're superb on track especially once they get warm and the track is dry. I've taken them off for the winter as I'm not so sure they will give great traction on ice and snow as and when we get any. I've had two sets of T1-R's. Very good all round tyres but...
I've recently had DOT5 put in my car after fitting braided lines. The pedal is really good on track and no fade at all. I've got DS2500 pads all round and Brembo HC front discs
The rings are interference fit and need some care fitting. You don't need to replace the shaft if the ring breaks. Make sure the faces are thoroughly cleaned with emery paper before fitting the new ring then carefully tap the new one onto the hub working round it evenly so it doesn't stretch it...
