Remove the anti rattle shims if you are using DS2500 pads on the front. The pads are slightly larger than standard pads. That will eliminate the squealing.
Citroen C5 or Xantia hdi ideal tow cars. Self levelling suspension and strong brakes and great diesel engines. I towed a Fiat Punto race car on a four wheel braked trailer to Brands Hatch a few years ago behind a BX TZD turbo with no problem. The Citroens have won tow car of the year for many years.
I had a buzzing noise from mine after a really wet track day in January. It came and went a few times afterwards then disappeared altogether. So far it's never come back. It really puzzled me at the time. Nothing stopped working so I'm none the wiser.
I bought my Phase1 172 three and a half years ago. It's without a doubt the best car I've owned. I've driven all sorts over the years and the Clio ticks all the boxes for me. It's really great fun to drive. The insurance is cheaper than my wife's Astra 1.6 automatic. I always use V Power or...
It's the dogbone bush allowing the cat to hit the floor when accelerating really hard. The answer is don't be so aggressive when accelerating for one thing and replace the dogbone bush with a Powerflex one and also replace the engine mountings with K Tec ones. That will tighten the engine into...
I've got OZ F1 15" rims on mine and they're great for track use. The only thing I am Carewful about is hitting any potholes with them on because they are prone to bending. I've had to have rims straightened twice after hitting holes where bad weather had left potholes. I've also got a set of...
The plug leads will be wet. Never spray water onto the top of an F4-R engine. The plugs are really deep into the head and the coils on the end of the leads will get full of water if you wash the engine. The only solution is to take each plug lead off and carefully dry out the insert that the...
I bought my Ph1 172 threes and half years ago for £1900. It had 89,000 miles on it. It's been a superb car. Ok I've replaced things like exhaust and brakes and several sets of tyres and replaced the engine mountings with K Tec ones. I had the belts done last autumn and dephaser pulley. It's now...
I don't think stripping the car is good unless it's just for track use. On the road it will be very noisy. I sometimes take the back seats out but they don't weight that much. Far better getting decent brakes and tyres and a performance air filter element as well as upgrading the engine...
I run my Aircon all the time including on track. It doesn't make much difference to power output and it keeps the car fresh. Saying that turning it off makes massive power gains is totally false.
The cone filter will suck in lots of hot air from the engine. Better using a 172 air filter housing and green cotton performance filter. That eliminates the hot air and ensures you get a decent cold air feed.
I use Toyo R1-R tyres now and they are awesome. Brakes are Brembo HC front discs and DS2500 pads all round. Braided lines and DOT 5.1 fluid. Green cotton air filter in 172 air filter housing. V power unleaded fuel. That's all it needs. Also replaced the engine mountings with K Tec racing ones...
It's likely to be the connections to the lamps. They are prone to corrosion problems. I took mine apart and carefully cleaned every connection with small hand drill for model making and cleaned them all with contact cleaner then carefully applied a film of copper grease to all the exposed metal...
I wouldnt worry too much if the temp is a little bit lower as long it warms up. It's going to do more harm if it gets too hot. The gauge should get to the middle in normal conditions.
It could be one of the other pulleys making a noise.I had one replaced on mine a couple of years ago. I've also had the dephaser done when the timing belt was done at Birchdown last autumn.
I've got a Scorpion cat back stainless exhaust on my 172 and it sounds really good and the performance is much better. It accelerates much better if you floor it. I did a trackday a few weeks ago with it on and was pulling higher speeds than the last day with the old exhaust on.
Do not steam clean the engine unless you can get rid of the water left down the spark plug inserts. They always fill up with water after steam clean and are a pig to clean. You could clean the area around the engine but don't get the top of the engine wet or you'll have no end of hassle drying...
