Can't remember his name, didn't stay as long as I would have liked as I have kidney stones and am really feeling it at the moment. Top place though, I phoned up yesterday and asked them to put it aside (which they did), know their stuff, that's for sure.
Test shots tomorrow, only had a little...
Been saving for 6 months, it was all finally worthwhile today...
(got the D80 battery grip as well, all from the nicest shop in the world, T4 in Swindon)
The screen is silly huge, I've got it next to my battered D50 and the difference is incredible. Oddly though, the grip is slightly...
My minor obsession with slow shutter speeds has just got me some unbelievable work, completely buzzing at the moment! Don't want to say too much yet, but think car manufacturer, think very expensive car, think new model, think brochure shots, think little ol' me shooting away ;)
Bestest bang for buck in the world imo, to get that kind of quality at any other focal length you are looking at hundreds of pounds.
I can't think of a single reason not to get one.
When I had that done only white was available, although I think I would have gone with black if I had the choice at the time.
My Motorsport Calendar for 2009 looks superb in black, the pictures really stand out, but then obviously they are pretty much all nice bright daytime shots.
Can't remember which setting it is, but you can lock focus and then re-frame the picture as much as you like with it still locked as you originally intended. For example, you want a person framed between two focus points, just use the centre one then move to the actual composition you want...
It is indeed very odd, on a couple of mine they are so different from the version online I can't even understand what went wrong, shame as I'm so impressed with them, look fantastic otherwise.

The more reasonable comparison would be with a D80, which is now about the same price in Jessops.
On a serious note, how did you find the difference in handling? I've never got...
Me too, been reading about it everyday as I should be going to get one this Thursday, not seen much in the way of negativity towards it, and as a bonus there are some really nice videos starting to appear on Youtube etc.
It's a whole D300 more in cost :) I realise a grand isn't much at that end of the market, but it's still quite a bit. And, erm, the D700 is a bit smaller, which might be of use to some people.
You said everyone would be trading in their D300s for D700s...I just find that unlikely as they are completely different formats and would possibly even involve changing lens ;)
They are completely different, one is FX and one is DX, crossover is virtually null, really.
The D200 is bomb-proof compared to the D80, that's probably the biggest thing you will notice. It's weather sealed, magnesium alloy etc so quite a step up in terms of quality from the D80. That's the...
To be fair this is the first with the actual artist name in the thread. I noticed this vid this morning so searched 'platinum' on here, had this post not appeared I would have put up a thread as well!
Hard for me to comment as I haven't get a chuffin clue about anything other than natural light, but just looking at them as photos...
I think they are good, rather than spectacular. Just something missing from most of them for me, the location is great but the lighting doesn't 'pop' compared...
This has been driving me insane, I've just checked every single table on the entire site and in Frontpage they are all specified as being in pixels (800), yet when I look at the html, it has percentages for a lot of them. Will edit them manually and see it that works. The annoying thing is, when...

Opinions very welcome on this, spent a bit of time putting this together since yesterday as I want a placeholder for my motorsport stuff (the actual galleries are still on Smugmug) which I will add a nice straightforward URL to as well soon. The idea...
Fantastic stuff, you got lucky with some fast cloud movement as well by the looks of things, really adds to the effect in the first two shots.
I love #2 from a pure photography perspective, really great shot. #6 is just brilliant and very unique, how?!
Congrats to Dave_W for his victory in the last round with his image depicting the theme 'Texture'
The next subject, chosen by him is:

Firstly, this clearly has limited use for us, but it's seriously genius in my opinion. If you happened to spend a lot of time in NYC or travelling across America it could be pretty cool...
