Not driven either yet, but I'm really torn between the 2 cars I've shortlisted for a £10k budget. I want a nice daily that is civilized when I'm not in the mood, but can do a bit on track without throwing a load of mods at it, in fact decent brakes and tyres only, then maybe a remap once bored...
Fuckin hell that could have been much worse. Get onto the seller and demand a full refund for a faulty product.
My one stinks the house out of electrical burning when charging as well. Guess its not long before this happens to mine.
I've used the same oil for years and never had an issue...Shell Helix Ultra 5w 40
Used it in modded turbo charged units, modded N/A screamers, mapped TD's to bog standard low output petrol and diesel units.
Track cars changed every 3-4 days and my dailies every 8-10k miles.
I wouldn't use any thicker than 40. Could have oil pump issues with flow and pick up especially if its using more oil than it should and levels get low. Also you'll lose a smidge of power and mpg due to the increased friction of the moving parts, which in turn will create more wear on these...
Good read that and there's really good plus points for either way around on both threads.
So many variables though but for me its more grip at the front as i feel i can control the car better.
I've ran budgets on the rear with semis up front on track as well, no drama there either.
It's a road car fella so I'm never going fast enough for the rear to step out before the front and I'd rather the grip at the front for emergency braking, especially in the wet.
I get why people say put the new tyres on the rear, its due to more tread and therefore more grip in case of an emergency manoeuvre etc. Saying that I could never bring myself to put new tyres on the rear when replacing the fronts on a front crawler, just replaced the fronts on the Mondy with...
Sounds like a great little week mate. There's also Japfest at Donington 30/6 as well which I planned to attend but just don't know if the car will be ready in time as its in bits at the minute.
I hear you mate, mine lasted all of 20 minutes last time out. Looking for a day to do in July myself but just couldn't stomach a 3hr commute there and back on a week day.
Probably do Oulton 27/7.
Ok so pulling the rear swinging arms off my Celica I've managed to shear one of the three captive bolts on the off side.
You can see the old nut and part thread were I've cut it and its now rattling around in the box section.
So i could drill/cut the centre hole as this doesn't have a bolt...

My advice would be to pull the sump and check the gap from pick up to sump floor. If over 9mm then defo look at an extension. I've still got a 3mm extension spare if it will fit an mr2.
Have a look at my Celica 190 thread were I've fitted an oil pick up extension coupled with the 1zz sump and thicker 5w 40 oil. Mine was fine at Aintree were the track is long fast high g corners.
Got to be your style surely? What mileage did you get the car on with the original box? If 85k then its defo you, lol. Mine was on the original at 107K before the engine went pop and it was still going well. In the 7k miles I used it most of that was very hard track use as well. I did however...
Coming along nicely with some lovely new shiny bits, decent track tyres is were you'll see the biggest improvement, it will feel like a different car.
Are you going to Japfest Donington by the way?
I've booked tickets but in a race now to replace the whole rusted rear end of the 190 before the...
Yeah was thinking that, I'll get my dremmel on them to clean them all up. Thing is its hard to recreate track conditions on the road so wouldn't know it worked until on track.
