I've got my D50 back up to where I was (and beyond in some respects) with my FZ20, and I've only spent £500. Admittedly it's much harder work at the moment due to not having the aperture range or image stabilization, but the images are gradually going way beyond what I ever managed....
D50 +...
Basically yes, not as much zoom but more at the wide angle. Remember you get more scope for cropping with an SLR though, this was with the 18-55mm and in my opinion is pretty reasonable, unless you are getting huge prints done cropping is never a problem.
You really don't need ultra-expensive...
Can anyone post some links to full size shots from a DSLR (motorsport is the preference) and let me know what lens they are using? I'm really interested in what the more expensive quality optics can do. If full size is a problem just some 100% crops of a smaller area would be cool. Static shots...
3x optical on a digital compact is generally equivalent to about 35-105mm on a 35mm camera, where as the 18-55mm lens on a DSLR is equivalent to 27-83mm (because the 350D and D50 etc don't have full size sensors, an '18-55mm' lens isn't actually that, it's longer at the tele end but also longer...
£377 isn't bad, it's generally £399 in the shops so it's a bit of a saving.
And no you won't find another SLR as good for that price, especially with the equivalent of the Nikon kit lens which is excellent in my opinion. The 350D is the other main option but that is about £100 more.
I've...
Although it won't be illegal to bring them back to the UK if you visit Japan in person, the law is an arse!
It won't even be released in March 2007 here anyhow, I'm almost sure of that.
This law makes no sense.
Would I be tracked down by black helicopters if I went to Japan, bought a PSP then brought it back to the UK (declaring it at customs of course)?
My favourite quote of the day...
"Thanks Sony for protecting us against dodgy foreign electronics. I'm glad I bought a proper UK spec VAIO laptop.
Hang on... does anyone else smell burning? "
My Wii is on pre-order too :)
Seriously though, how are Sony 'protecting' us by doing this? Lik-Sang were a superb company and always a pleasure to deal with, thankfully Play-Asia still exist (for now).
Picked up a Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 this week for the pricely sum of 90 pounds! Obviously a very cheap lens but I am really really pleased with the shots I got today at Castle Combe. God knows what this Nikon D50 can do with some real quality optics attached to it.
Everyone I have ever met has said the exact opposite and said the PSP is the dull one.
It's just pure fun. No really fancy graphics, just solid entertaining gameplay. Simple as that really, I feel like I'm 10 and on my Atari 7800 again when I play on it, the games have that kind of effect on...
Yep it's all good. I have a Canadian DS which I link up with my missus' UK DS, use a variety of games/accessories from different countries etc and have never encountered any problems.
Bombproof actually, had the DS for nearly 2 years now and it's still perfect.
Bit of a shitter, no fault of your own but you will potentially have a car worth much less than a non-crashed Cup in future.
Would it not be better if it was written off?
Is it me or did this come out of nowhere?

Looks great...

Nov 24th release.
Harry's font makes more sense, yours look out of place imo, but the one above looks old enough to show that Ford has heritage (along with the quote of course) whilst still looking stylish.
As you wanted honesty, I would say it could be much much better. Aside from the jaggies etc the layout...
Canon 400D + Canon 18-55mm + 1GB CF = £515 (http://www.ajpurdy.co.uk)
Tamron 55-200mm F4-5.6 AF = £72 (http://www.microglobe.co.uk)
So that equals £587, a case cannot cost that much! You could build that seperately and add the awesome 50mm f1.8 as well for the same price.
On the subject...
Depends on exactly which additional lens you get, but the 400D package could potentially be a good buy. I've always avoided packages with memory, it's stupidly cheap to buy seperately but an easy way for companies to boost the price of package deals.
I only had a 3MP Sony Compact up until last year and rarely used it, it's amazing how quickly you learn when you get the Panasonic FZxx as you have so much zoom at your disposal there are literally hundreds more shots you can take, it's taught me literally everything I know about photography.
More than suitable I would say...
Motorsport (all but 'Castle Combe 07/10/06' taken with the FZ20)

Similar shots I took with the FZ20 below, trust me you can't go wrong with the FZ50...

Just corrected the colours a little by adjusting the levels in Photoshop Elements 3, nothing else. I've never sharpen pictures or anything like that, I don't like the effect it has. I just bin the shot if it isn't pretty much perfect straight from the camera.
No way, I actually want an FZ10 or 20 to back-up my D50 as there are shots that I simply will never get with the D50 now unless I spend £1000+ on lenses.
Can I just say a big thanks to all of those who pestered me to get a DSLR even though it might one day bankrupt me (Rich, BluePete etc)
As much as I loved my FZ20 and accept that there are shots that I simply won't be able to afford to get anymore (I had 600mm to play with at RAF Fairford...
