Tough one, the majority will say Canon but anyone who has ever 'taken a risk' and owned a 12x zoom Panasonic will say nothing but good things about it.
The FZ20 won we competitions and got me a comissioned job when both up against DSLRs, and it taught me everything I know. I honestly don't...
I was told not to bother, but I had ago anyway. I'm talking about my Nikon D50, which I took along to Castle Combe today for the always thrilling Formula Ford Carnival, the reason I was told not to bother with the camera is that until next year I've only got the 18-55mm kit lens, absolutely...
FZ20 maximum shutter length is 8 seconds, one of the reasons I moved to the D50 as I wanted a bulb mode for light-trails etc. Things get a bit noisy with compact cameras over an extended shutter length due to the small sensor, that's why it was limited to 8 seconds.
I sold my FZ20 with...
I'll give you that, just realised how cheap it is now...

That's ridiculous!
Potentially the FZ30 is the better buy, should be cheaper and there is less noise due to the fewer number of pixels (pixels = marketing tool, over and above 5MP they really mean nothing to 99% of digital camera users), also means you can get many more shots on a card. I actually had the FZ10 and...
Essentially if you think you have money to spend (lots of it) over and above your initial purchase then get a DSLR, chances are you wouldn't want to upgrade/sell up for years and the lenses can always be moved to a new body in future.
If you want to spend £400 and not have to think about...
Which Tamron is that? Is it pretty good in low light, good autofocus etc? I'm currently saving for the Nikon 18-200 mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR for my D50 which I should be able to get before next season starts up! Seems to have very fast autofocus which is the main thing I'm looking for.
I...
I ordered through Play on the day it got an official UK announcement, as long as I get one before Christmas I will be happy.
Not sure what games to get with it yet, probably Monkey Ball and then get a few older games from the Virtual Console too.
Someone mentioned the possibility of a bridge camera, you really can't go wrong with one of those.
I had a Panasonic FZ20 and although the actual technical quality of the images wasn't as good as a DSLR, the actual photographs were arguably better in many cases as it was always there and...
350D or D50 it is then :)
You need to get out and handle them both really. I had my heart set on a 350D until I actually had a good play with one, then tried the Nikon and loved it despite not really researching it as much. The majority of people own the 350D (the megapixels alone will shift...
It never really occurred to me until today, but thinking back my Clio ownership days have been amazing...
1999-2003 - 1996 Clio 1.2 RN
My first car, bought on 66,000 miles and driven every day, finally sold it on 105,000 miles. Serviced and MOT'd every year and absolutely fine every time...
D50 and standard lens is awesome, really helpful for getting started but then everything is there once you know exactly what you are doing.
In a recent Digital Photography magazine test it beat the 350D in pretty much every test apart from getting huge prints done (due to the difference in...
I had Sportlines on the Cup, probably 20mm or less drop, just enough to tidy the lines up without it being impractical (inch perfect when parking over kerbs, just fits!)
Ride was a little more harsh but the car felt even better, best purchase I made.
Great shots.
Love the new Spyker livery, my neighbour works for them so hopefully he will bring a Spyker home one day instead of the normal supercars, awesome looking machine.
Awesome piece of kit. Excessive Megapixels = noisy pictures but only really noticeable if you are going to get large prints made. Otherwise excellent.
I used an FZ20 for a few years and it was an amazing camera.
A few samples...

Cheers for the comments and advice. Really liked the feel of the D50 so I went with that purely because I felt more comfortable with it.
There is indeed a Nikon 50mm f1.8 and it is also very cheap, someone else also recommended it to me as a great lens to pick up fairly cheap, so I will be at...
A few samples from an excited little child! Only taken about 80 shots so far and messing up a lot of stuff, but so much fun...and you can actually see what you are taking a picture of in real-time, amazing ;)
Pleased with the macro performance already, will have some more fun with that over...
Lovely night shots, really hard to fault them. So surreal and different from many pics I've seen. I like the first few of the road in particular.
Will take a look at your site for sure.
Has the car of the year award been officially announced etc? Heard from several people out in the real world that yours won but haven't seen anything on the forum yet.
Congrats by the way!
I was on foot so I didn't like to wave ;), but yes you were driving. I always wave at other RS' in the area, get funny looks usually though!
I'm thinking about getting one of those flexible tripod things (I want to call it a gorillapod, no idea why) for some interior movement shots, always...
Cheers for the links and advice, got a Nikon D50 today with the kit lens for £399 from London Camera Exchange in Bath. Mind boggling handling and performance, I'm blown away! Will spend a few months learning the ways of my first SLR and then start thinking about new lens etc.
