Yes, like Tom says ignore the lets throw a brick through the windows until you have exhausted other methods, if your a member of a breakdown company they MAY be able to use a modernised "Slim Jim" device. No harm in trying

Paintwork is in pretty awful shape to be honest. Shall I just stick with menzerna intensive with a SFX1 pad?

Yeah but you can only go so thick before the plenum will not mate correctly with the oil breather, not so much a problem on the 182s. But still I think 3mm is plenty.
