2 completely different motors, the BM is more of a GT therefore more civilised, yet you can have a hoot when you wanted to. The RS is a technical marvel and no doubt more fun when you're in the mood, but for a daily seems a bit to hardcore for me.
Been looking at slicks myself, and I would like to try them at some point but will be learning the car on decent coilovers first. Plus I've got suspension and chassis parts to upgrade first.
I get all my semi slicks part worn from ebay for peanuts, no point in buying new when you can pay less...
Haha, still managed to pedal it around Oulton and Blyton at a decent pace. I've got a feeling that it will take a while to push past what I think the limit is on these, especially if it's twitchy as.
Just having a search around regarding running a RARB with these coilovers and some say its not needed due to how hard they are set-up from factory, especially running 110nm rear springs. Is there any truth in this? I'm currently running a Whiteline RARB on the soft setting...
Having done a lot of reading myself mate, I'd say 8kg/450lb minimum front and rear for a track car. People tend to use harder springs at the rear to aid turn in and reduce under-steer but with the wanted/unwanted side effect of over-steer and general twitchiness at the rear.
I've currently got 9kg/90nm/506lb fronts and 11kg/110nm/618lb rears, I'm yet to try these though, so will let you know how the harder springs at the rear coupled with a rarb works out...
Think he had 16s. Id personally go 15s as they seem to ride better, handle better and tyres are much cheaper, oh and look better once lowered. Ive got these on my track car and they look great IMO.

First set are far to wide and the offset is way to much, they will stick out a mile from the arches and potentially cause rubbing if you plan on lowering. Not to mention you'll be needing at least 205 width, more like 215/225 tyres which are much more expensive. As for the other wheels, yuck!
Was expecting a sport transformed into a cup racer or something, lol.
Anyway, sack those tinted rear lights off and it looks like a good little car for a young lad. Presumably it's your first.
Front collars are now free, but the rear hex bolts on the collars are stuck solid, and I've now rounded the hex, lol. No biggie, I'll just drill them out in work.
Can't wait to get these fitted now, I'm hoping they'll be night and day over the OE cup dampers and ECP's AMAX springs.
Thanks for...
Haha, I know. Can't get the hex bolt out the collar of the rears and the collars on the fronts won't budge so far...
They're now soaking in wd40, so hopefully they'll move. If not a bit of heat should do it.
Just got hold of a set of these but can't fathom how the height adjustment works. I get you move the collars up or down the strut, but in doing this it adds or reduces pre-load to the springs. Now if I move the collars down to much the springs aren't under load and are loose on the strut and if...
Thought I'd revive this rather than start a new thread.
Managed to get hold of a used set of AST 4100 Coilovers and they come with 50/30nm & 90/110nm springs. Has anyone any experience with AST spring rates? As I only really know rates in KG, so not a clue in nm. Got a feeling the 90/110 will...
Yep straight bolt-on. You maybe hard pushed finding one with Recaro's as well but there's always a set going on eBay for a few hundred quid, that's all I did.
No mate, I managed to get hold of a pair of Callipers from the Focus ST, well Mazda 3 MPS actually as they share the same set-up. You can get them from eBay dirt cheap though and discs and pads aren't to bad either from ECP with their discount, I'm running Brembo High Carbon discs and Brembo OE...
So you'll be doing around 20k a year, I'd be going derv with that mileage. I have a mk3 Mondeo ST155 at the minute and get a real world 50 mpg, tax is only £16 a month and insurance is peanuts at £350, mine has 8 way adjustable electric/heated Recaros, Focus ST 320mm front brake kit, rear...
