    The endless battle against Understeer

On track yesterday and I found I still have a lot more understeer than I was hoping. So far on my 172 I have fitted a Whiteline ARB, Sportlines, Cup front shocks, camber bolts and trackday tyres (Federal RSRs). The alignment is setup standard but with -1.5 camber on the front. So what other...

How much for a garage to simply fit tyres to alloys?

Everywhere around me charges £14 per corner for new tyres fitted and balanced and put back on the car. Never done it on wheels not fitted to anything, but I can't imagine it being much cheaper.

How much tread do you get through on a track day?

What Tony said. I hammered my PE2s on track, but that meant I never did runs that were very long on them as it became very obvious when they overheated. Pitting when they got hot clearly reduced their wear massively. Got RSRs on now and a trackday at Bedford tomorrow, so will be interesting to...

How much tread do you get through on a track day?

Using PE2's on track at Bedford I lost no more than 1mm on the fronts. The rears were probably 0.5mm at most.

    'Stiffer' steering after changing shocks

Yep, it was all alignment. Got it sorted today and it feels much better.

    New MOT Rules

Yeah its a generalisation, but I can kind of see why. After all, some lights are serious. But its the things about 'no airbag fitted' and stuff I'm not sure about. If you fit an after market wheel and the resistor to get rid of the light is that enough, or is the fact it left the factory with...

    iPads @ Tesco £50?!

Or just whip the price label off the shelf, run down to PI and print out a correct one and stick it on :) There are 2 very different situations though. One where the price on the shelf is wrong yet it scans through the till at the right price, or one where the price when it scans is wrong...

    iPads @ Tesco £50?!

The whole 'they have to sell it to you at that price' rubbish comes around every time something like this happens. Just like the 'they are increasing the driving age to 18' story goes around every school every year. Its one of those misconceptions fueled by people blindly stating it and people...

    Spec me a steering wheel

Anyone know of any shops around southampton that would have a selection of wheels on display?

    New MOT Rules

My main concerns are HID washers not working and steering wheels without airbags (but with light off).

    New MOT Rules

So, has anyone so far put an RS Clio though an MOT since Jan 1st with any of the following: Headlight washers on HID cars not working Headlight washers on HID cars removed completely Steering wheel replaced with an after market one with no airbag Airbag light on Fixed back bucket seats Fixed to...

    Would you ever fit these?

If they did them in 15" and 7J, they would be my track wheels.

    Recommend some locking wheel nuts?

Can anyone recommend a set of decent locking wheel nuts that don't cost the earth, but also don't have a stupid fiddly flimsy locking nut that breaks easily? Cheers

What size are the Renault centre caps in OZ F1s?

What size are the centre caps in the OZ F1's, and can they be replaced with other OZ ones? I have had a look online and there are a few different sizes and types of OZ centre cap around.

    Nissan's "BatMobile" Delta wing racer

Someone best get the 1:18 scale die cast rights to this car! I want a model!

    Nissan's "BatMobile" Delta wing racer

Been following this for a while. It's not really a Nissan, they have just bought into an existing project. It's spawned from a proposal from a couple of years ago for a new IndyCar. It's focus is on low weight and ground effect downforce. 75% of the weight and power are over the rear wheels...

Eibach Sportlines/new shocks or Bilstein B14's?

    Depends entirely on budget, surely?

FAO Anyone who hasn't got a Whiteline ARB

It stops the 'float' you get on the road when changing direction (where the rear end seems to take a split second to react).

    Spec me a steering wheel

I'm thinking about 320mm as I do have big hands (ooo errr). I don't think I do enough miles to worry about suede going shiny, and it would mean I could move away from needing to use gloves on track. But the over all decider would be price. If leather is cheaper then I will go for that...

FAO Anyone who hasn't got a Whiteline ARB

HAI! Seemed fair to me given the efforts I went to to get it, and the wait time for any new stock. Some people didn't agree though, :p. Glad I kept it, its great.

    Spec me a steering wheel

Hmm, ok. But still means finding the rare and overpriced Sabelt wheel. Toast, is that wheel not uber small? (I am right in thinking the standard wheel is 380mm, right?)

How difficult is swapping the indicator stalk? Does it affect anything else on that stalk (lights)?

    Spec me a steering wheel

Hmm... seem rare and expensive, and doesn't have a centre horn. Lots of effort and expense to get one. Any other suggestions? Anything like the Sabelt from OMP or Sparco or the likes that has a horn?

    What size is the Sabelt?

    Spec me a steering wheel

Ho long until the suede wheels start to go shiny? I don't drive my car on the road much. I think I've done about 5000 miles in the last 12 months.

Why is my clio constantly trying to kill me!!

I've had this kind of behaviour twice. First time was due to a failed rear shock. Second time (I.e. currently) is because I have changed the front shocks and springs and not had it aligned yet.
