I meant the light in the middle of the dash between the stop & serv if its flashing then the immobiliser isnt deactivating.
Guys you do realise that a fluorescent light drains miniscual amounts of power. Putting it on the boot light will be absolutely fine. Just use a voltmeter to determine the wires that need cutting.
They aint interchangable without as you said before "reprogramming" so swapping the ecu it just wasting your time.
With the old ECU does the immobiliser deactivate thats the most liekly cause if you ask me. Look at the dash when the ignition on is there a red light flashing?

Here is some additional info about the camshaft phase shift system as used on the Clio RS. (2000-2005)
The VVT system is only active after certain conditions are met, like coolant temperature / battery voltage etc.
Once these conditions are met , the ECU looks...

The black one slightly lower is the level sensor
Itl be unburnt fuel getting into the exhaust which is causing the smell. Ovi take it back to the gaarge and get them to give it the once over if you havnt already :)

Yeah as said you can run more ignition advance but the difference is negligable at best IMO not worth the extra pennies. But if it pacifies you then go ahead
