Loving this. Have pretty much same spec but mines a daily so need to keep reliable.
What are the brakes like now after the new pads & discs? I ask as I really think the R26 brakes in OEM spec are disappointing, and worse than mildly upgraded ph1 172 brakes.
Repair the one you've got?
If you're not doing the work yourself then the cost will very quickly mount up to the point where another car is by far the better choice. You can always take some or all of the mods off the current car and put them on another Clio.
I know it's not want your want to hear fella, but...
The option to get you a different engine with the least modification is sell/scrap your 1.2 and buy another Clio with a different engine.
Changing yours, even for another 1.2 8v really isn't worth the time/hassle/money/insurance bother.
+1 in the dry they're as good as anything else I tried - PE2's, Prada spec 2's, conti sport 2's
It's in the wet where the difference is IMHO, PE2's being miles better
Seem to remember the nav was something like a £1000 option, on a £15.5k car, hence not many people went for them.
Car looks great - a mate had one a few years back - a lot better built than the Clio.
I considered one of these when looking for a replacement for my old 172. IIRC these are the Busso V6 rather than the more modern but way less sonorous GM V6?
Tax and economy did it for me though. Lovely car, hero points from me.
Re: My new car. TTQS
That looks really great. I was seriously considering one before I bought the R26. They still look so modern and as much of a concept car to production car has as ever been surely?
Far more energy is wasted in the F1 factories and in moving the stuff around the world than 22 cars ever use being driven 300 miles 20 times a year, so the savings likely to be made are moot. Tyres lasting 30 miles really aren't great for the environment, even if they are fully recycled. How...
Hi Hloni
I was in Jo'burg last year and saw a few Renault RS's up and down, and a dealer showroom there too. One thing that did occur to me was at the altitude your at they're all a fair bit down on power and the fuel didn't seem to help either.
You should have still enough charge in the battery to close the window and lock the door. Something else happening here I think. The smell could of been the belt slipping and burning which could mean your alternator bearing has seized. How long did you drive with the warning lights on?
So far, in my experience, yes. The Megane will be going a little faster however, but will be less entertaining. I used to thrash my Clio to work and back every day (work shifts so on the roads at odd times) and it cost me roughly £30/week. Driving the R26 almost as steady as possible and it's...
Again, on a 182 I don't know, but my ph1, run on high octane fuel would return 45mpg at 80 easily. Driven 'properly' on my work commute (3 miles town at 30ish, 15 miles A&B roads at a lot faster) it would return 38-40. The R26 on the same journey driven as carefully as possible only gets to...
Clio would do 45mpg on a long run, 300 miles/5 hours. Not had a 182 so don't know how they compare to a ph1, but the Megane is truly awful for the slight performance increase.
