Nice project. Regards the intermittent wipers if they're like the megane it might just be either the sensor or possibly the gel cover that sits over it. Mine had a windscreen replaced and they didn't put the gel pad back in which prevented the sensor from sensing..

It can be separated. It's plastic welded from behind. You'll need to whip the dash top though to do it. I used ipa, soapy water, wire wool and some wet and dry, takes a while though.

Might not be the wiring then could be the button it's self. Tap the wires together quickly to see if it beeps the horn or have you tried that?

Need a multi meter and a knowledgeable person now. How come you didn't disconnect the battery? Without having knowledge of what to check you'll be chasing your tail. Does the squib work, ie indicators, lights and wipers etc?

Never mind the insurance, the cost of a V6 is scary money now. Need a pension to cash in to get one these days!!
