Most of not all who are doing 225 conversions go with aftermarket loom and ECU, I don't think coding the standard ECU is possible/practical. If you make it a hybrid engine with the 172 block it will mate up to the standard gearbox.
I had the silenced version fitted to my PH1 and it's not quiet (But then I've been driving the 1.4 for ages which is silent)
I'd say I'm just old but I'm only 23 !
Mine wasn't visible after fitting.
I repaired one with the YLOD with a paint stripper gun, you just hold it over the GPU until you hear a light cracking noise then let it cool for 20 mins. Been fine since. Although your's sounds like it's shorting out ? They are stupidly easy to take apart if you have a set of screw drivers and...
I've never done anything remotely related to mechanics at any point, I'm actually a storage software engineer for hewlett packard. Yet I've managed, with research from multiple sources (As with any good research you do) rebuild my PH1. The only thing I will really send to a garage is my gearbox...
Time will tell, plenty of experience on here of timing failure after a period of the belts getting done, not necessarily immediate failures.
I'm hoping it lasts for you though.
I think I picked mine up for just shy of £800 many moons ago, the HD200X I have has only had 1 issue in the last 4-5 years and it was the colour wheel getting dirty (caused the image to stick to a colour) It's still on it's original lamp (Not that expensive to replace anyway) only negative...

Mental how people don't get caught driving like this, yet people get nailed for answering their phone while driving.
It's believed to be for engineer regulations in regards to vibration, it can be removed without issues (Requires removal of top engine mount to access the bolt)
Weights quite a bit for it's size.
Picked this up yesterday and instantly got sidetracked in finding all the roads and billboards lol
Really reminded me of burnout paradise (But less epic) so that's a plus. Probably not much in it for the long run but it had me absorbed for a good 4 hours last night
If you need any working parts to test ASAP, I'm relatively close working in peterlee - just holla I have 2 172's doing nothing at the moment all with working sensors etc
Could always try a compression test, think the kit is fairly cheap.
I know how you feel though, the exact same thing happened to my PH1 a few month ago.
