Mine started spluttering yesterday. Only in fifth and at higher revs. It started after I filled up with petrol. Thinking it was possible dodgy fuel. Driven 150 miles since on the motorway and it has stopped doing it.
I'm trying to find the MOT testing centres in Bristol. Rather than go to a garage who will take my car to the station, I will do it myself (and avoid someone having a joy ride and listening to my good taste in music on my CD). Any one know where to find such a list - the internet search brings...
I did this as I bought one cheap and the original needed spraying (something that I couldn't afford at the time). Had to drill some extra holes. Eventually though I thought it looked like a mongrel.
Swearing also helps!
It happened to me when I refitted my bonnet as I had moved it out of alignment. Someone needs to pull the lever and then just keep pulling and pushing and spraying WD40 around (and swearing) until it opens - then sort out why.
I will look at getting one later this year. I'm lucky enough to have a company car (I've not taken it yet) and it's from Toyota! I'm interested to find out how the boxer engine feels compared to my Subaru. Good times.
It's problematic, this idea, apparently as some part of the tool eventually bends (if I remember correctly). This was covered before in a previous thread. I was going to ask to borrow the tool, but in the end eventually thought better of it.
TDF in Cambs or RS Tuning in Leeds are the ones for me. I'm not expecting great differences though but I'm after just slightly better driveability.
My Prospeed exhaust has lasted six years and was patched up under guarantee. Top place, I think. My Subaru will be treated soon to one of their...
I'd estimate 3 k for around 200 hp (or a bit more). Strip as much of the interior as you wish to save weight, too. Even then, the real trick is spending time driving to get the most from it. Several times I have raced at airfield events against upgraded Clios, mines standard at 160hp, and I win...
Slightly stiffer shocks and a bit lower due to springs. The main gain of the 172 Cup suspension over the std 172 was the different wheel offset, it made the cars slightly wider (but nothing to set the World alight!).
What do you mean by a standard 172, is it a ph1 or a ph2? It won't fit straight onto a ph1. I did it to my ph1 and when I drove it round a traffic island for the first time it sounded like an American cop car from the 1970s, all squeals and rubbing noises. The alignment went well out from...
It needs a new throttle cable. Yes, it is a common problem and you will have to buy a genuine Renault cable from the dealers. Should be £25 or so. Fitting it isn't difficult but can be a bit fiddly. Don't buy a non-geniune cable, you have been warned!Cheers
I found that an 11mm long socket would have been really helpful on this job. Once you start putting it all back together you'll see where. As said, hold the release bearing in position when refitting the gearbox - I just wedged some cardboard in the hole between the arm and it worked fine. Do...
Just out of interest how do you know that the bearings are worn. I have my engine out at the moment and when I looked at mine it seemed as though the pulley was slightly buckled.
My 172 g/b has lasted for 168000 miles and this includes many time trial events (where I was finishing in the top three out of about twenty cars). It's whining a bit now but nothing majorly wrong. Utter rubbish really that these are weak g/bs. I just changed the oil on about every third engine...
The ones that I have heard others recommend is TDF in Cambs, RS Tuning in Yorks and Surrey Rolling Road in..........................................................Surrey (near Virginia Water just off M25 and which is where I went to from near Bristol). Worth going somewhere reliable. Cost was...
