155s but a 135 at the fly. So went across to Surrey Rolling Road for a test and it made 159 horses so not a disaster just pretty average (the tester called it 'a bit leggy'!). Still it's done 162,000 miles.
I also fitted 172 Cup shocks front and rear (originally with Prolines then Cup springs). Terrible and never got the alignment right. Mr Fred pulled a face when he looked. Now back to originals and much better (never again).
Same here, we might be competing. Either they have no service history (= too big a risk), they're been to KTR, for sale near to Ben Nevis or been driven through a hedge and kerbed. I suppose the good standard examples do sell quickly because they are in demand.
There's only 14kg difference between them plus the Ph1 has the better interior. But the Cup has it's chassis which should be a little better although the tyres are pricier being 16s compared to 15s. Not much in it therefore. I'm in the same position, sort of. I have another engine to go in my...
I'm not clear what you mean. There are mk2 ph1 172s and mk2 ph2 172s including the 127 Cup. The difference between the engines is the gearbox and on the Cup the alternator bracket is different as it has no Aircon. Probably some other minor differences (things like the airboxes), oh and most...
Just my luck, that one's like many of the others I seem to be finding ATM. Why can't there be just one reasonable 172 Cup that I can buy, with service history, in a decent condition and unmolested by tuners?
Great day I thought. I didn't see any 16v Clio's and no 172 Cup either in the show area. Great to see Reanult's Clio Williams no. 001. Interesting that Renault's Trophy had obvious paint swills on its bonnet. The last Clio race was good with lots of three wheel action at Luffield Corner.
Mine's done 162k - a Ph1. Clutch was changed only after 140k and still had life left in it. Some gearbox noise but very slight. Will be changing the engine as it makes 5% less than new (assuming it ever had 168 hp!). Good cars. Don't understand the comment BTW about VWs? It has certainly been...
I very stupidly did a sprint run to 100 mph on an airfield and after a days racing with the bonnet not properly closed. I had opened the bonnet to let the engine cool down after my last timed run and I didn't close it completely before doing the sprint. I had a slightly numb feeling after when I...
Yep, creaking has returned on mine - 160k. Clutch changed at 140k with new cable fitted = fixed (temp). Fixed again at 155k by greasing the pivot point under the rubber cover (air filter off, cable off end of fork, remove cover and apply grease carefully). Creaking came back again. I blame dust.
You've failed the MOT test I take it?
The problem is usually the rear light cluster contacts shorting out. Take them off and clean with electrical spray (Maplins sell it) and wet and dry paper. Mine had this problem, but I only got an advisory at the test.
Forget service history. Get your spanners out. Mine's done 160,000 miles, pulls strongly and returns 40+ mpg. It has not had any service stamps since I bought it on approx 25,000 miles some six years ago. Just replace the fluids as required (5000 miles for engine oil and 15,000 for gearbox oil)...
I know the feeling. I'm after one, too while I'm rebuilding my Ph1. I have been looking for about six weeks, but they are either: a. located miles away, b. £500 over priced or c. £1500 has been spent on ''modifications'' which doesn't include retrimming the steering wheel.
I suppose I...
Re: Urgent Help needed Bonnet Stuck shut and wont open !Managed to remove front bumpe
I did it, too when I took the bumper off to change the radiator. Glad you got it open. Need to line up the catch accurately. I just used a blob of grease on the end of the spring to see how much I had to move...
The RS inlet manifold is stamped 'RS' in big letters. I got it fitted to my ph1 172 when I went to have matched inlets fitted at a certain well known tuning company based in Eastern England. And the difference it made was - somewhere between nothing and not a lot. My best changes have been the...
And from the Megane. The one I have has the same part number but two breather pipes and came from a Megane. It's been the only one that hasn't given me the same problems (varying idle) out of four that I've tried - and I only paid a tenner for it from a breaker via Ebay.
