    de-cat

On a 182 it is. On a 172 its a right royal pain to change
  4. A

Looked at a 172 Turbo today.

Would be easy to spot if it was a HG problem. Change the leaky header bottle first. Could be that

BEWARE, LOW MILEAGE LIQUID YELLOW CLIO 182 VO54 FFZ

Ph1 engine in a 182 isnt a bad thing but its not worth top 182 money. If its priced right it could actually be a good buy: low mileage 182 body, the best colour with the better ;) ph1 engine. They are taking the P a bit by ignoring its pointed out problems and continuing to sell it as before...

BEWARE, LOW MILEAGE LIQUID YELLOW CLIO 182 VO54 FFZ

Did you ring up the previous owner of the car to clarify its history? The owner probably traded it in, didn't tell dealer about the engine or pedal mods so he got full trade in price.

    172 phs2 cat

Are you sure its not one of the the heat shields rattling rather than the cat?

Things to look for on phase 1 172?

Sure he hasn't bought it for £300 off ebay, patched it up using any bits of s**t to flog on? It might be fine but its a buyers market out there and there are 100's of ph1's for sale. If something isnt quite right internally then your 1k car could comfortably be a 2k + one

Help ive just broke my 182!

Have you tried using your spare key?

    PAS removal on 172 cup

Pretty sure you have to remove the PAS pulley Pop the belt back on so you can slacken off the bolt holding it on or remove the whole mount with pump and shove the pulley in a vice and slacken off

    Head gasket

Done roughly 70k worth of mileage on a skimmed head with no issues to it

    438 CATCAMS

People know roughly what these cars make with X Y Z mods. The torque result is very high for only a set of cams.

    Is my car dead?

See if your breakdown cover entitles you to get towed to a garage of your choice. Sounds like its spun a shell

    Throttle body gasket

Cut your own gasket from a corn flakes packet ;) Yeah it should be fine

    172 Springs

Eibach pro springs ? They don't lower and iirc are black so near enough factory look plus Eibach have always had a good reputation on the Clio scene

    Coolant Level / Top Up

Bought a 5 litre bottle of genuine pre mixed Renault type d the other day. Cost exactly a tenner. Double check to confirm but iirc: blue is type d, red is oat

    Temp gauge question..

There's a bit in the Haynes manual on how to test a coolant sensor :)

    OIL return for turbo

Match it to the size of the pipe of the return. No idea if their all roughly the same from turbo to turbo but the one i used on a T34 was a 3/4''

    OIL return for turbo

Just for reference only: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-BUG-BUGGY-TRIKE-RAIL-1-2-Male-Oil-Fitting-1-2-Barb-/300351221302?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item45ee53ee36#ht_1008wt_1163 Ones i used on my Zetec are like the above. All i did was drill the hole, thread it, put Loctite on...

    OIL return for turbo

You don't have a nut inside the sump. Tap the sump, screw the fitting in and locked / sealed in. If it was to fall off which it wouldn't, it would fall out the way
  23. A

    OIL return for turbo

Top of the sump is fine. No need to pay silly money on the fittings either. Go to a engineering place rather than searching anything ''car'' based. I got mine for about £1.50 - Equivalent ones on ebay are a tenner for exactly the same thing

    Ripped right off......

While on the subject, thought 172 / 182's were meant to be bullet proof when it came to the Head Gaskets..

    Is my car dead?

LOL Worth getting it checked out but just don't go back to a place who only looks at things haha Sure Birchdown is pretty near you? Decent specialist

    Is my car dead?

Have you never read on this forum how important it is to have your belts done by age or mileage not through just ''looking'' ?!?!?! Get the car to a decent garage for a start and brush up on how to look after your car ;)

    Engine 'Hunting' - Poor Idle

Cleaning the throttle body is just a generic answer to this kind of problem which usually it never actually is ;)

What head gasket for over sized pistons ?

Do you use the stock Renault head gasket when using over-sized (84mm) pistons? Just wondering if the piston bore size on the Renault HG would be too small? :o Cheers

    Blown Engine

Yours is known as a ph1. Basically a mk1 172 The newer model after that (the Clio Cup style facelift front) is known as a ph2 and then the one with the twin rear exhaust pipes is a 182
