If you take it to a regular garage chances are they will use a generic Renault cam locking tool, that is if they use a locking tool. Either way they will get the timing wrong.
To make matters worse some of the incorrect tools are sold on ebay as fitting these engines when the wrong types, so...
I had a similar problem with a set of Apex spings on my Fiat coupe. 3 coils were touching at a standstill and you could hear the others banging as you went over bumps.
Luckily they are easy to change on those, so they went back.
I think the Cup looks stunning, but IMO you would be better off getting a slightly leggier one for less money.
The engine may have suffered lots more cold starts and shorter journeys than leggier one, and that is when most engine wear occurs...
Also think of it like this. You spend £5.5k on a...
Have a look under the car at it with the engine running, you will be able to see any movement in it. There will be some but it shouldn't be too much.
There is a genuine one on ebay for £14, but I would advise you not to buy it.
It is meant for a Kango/smaller engine clio, and whilst it will...
Dog bone mount under car which attaches between the engine/gearbox and the subframe.
It can look fine, but be shot and when shot it will allow the exhaust to hit the subframe when you pull away. It will probably be a bit worse if you pull away on an incline. (mine was)
On my car I have cooper Zeon CS6, they were fitted to the car when I bought it. Grip is ok but not exceptional, they seem like a hard compound so would probably stand up well to track use. If I have the car when they wear out I will probably put Dunlops on. For a premium tyre they are excellent...
Thanks mate, I was thinking it was a KTR but some of the ones I have seen have a band around them where the bracket attaches where as this one is fully welded.
When I took it off of the car the pipes were slightly discoloured, but I have cleaned it with scotch brite.
It sounds pretty good on a...
I have just taken this exhaust off of my 172, an anyone tell me what make it is?
there are no names or markings and the pipe is 2.5"
It will shortly be for sale in the for sale section, once I find out what it is.
Hopefully going to have a crack at mine over the forthcoming bank holiday weekend. I am getting sick of the smell of oil through the heater from the cam cover leaking onto the exhaust manifold. I have a pair of seals to go behind the cam sprockets as well, just to make sure.
To be honest out of...
If the belt has snapped you would loose the power steering.
It could be the alternator connector as LeeRS says, a broken off earth, cooked (and internally shorted) battery, or the Alternator itself.
I changed my filter from the top without removing the injector cover.
I removed the rubber bonnet seal across the front to stop it getting damaged, and used a 3 prong type filter removal tool.
The first one could just be a broken/dirty ABS sensor. They are magnetic an can attract metal particles from the brake disc, and this inteferes with the signal. There is also a chance that the connector may have corrded contacts.
I wouldn't go to Mr clutch, I have heard too many horror stories.
If you are brave do it yourself, if not then take it to a specialist.
It isn't a complete nightmare, but you have to know a bit about what you are doing.
There is a guide on this site somewhere.
You can do the job by lowering the subframe a few cm on the passenger side.
Just leave the bolts in, so that the last few threads holds it up. There is enough room to move the box over and get the new clutch in.
It isn't a job for the faint hearted, but it is doable with time and effort.
I had Apex springs on my Fiat coupe for a while and they were terrible.
The bottom 3 coils on each spring sat coilbound when the cars weight was on them and that cause rattling noises whilst going over bumps, the top part of the front springs wasn't central and that caused knocking on the...

I have had loads of trouble with my car as well. I have thought about selling it but now it is pretty much sorted, and who is to say that...
I disagree, the clutch release bearing isn't actually doing much with the clutch engaged where as the input shaft bearing is rotating. When the clutch is pressed the input shaft stops turning, so does the noise.
Usually the release bearing will make a noise when you press the clutch and it is...
I think it depends what you want. I have the Eibach pro kit springs and KYB dampers and the car handles and rides very well. The Sportline spings are going to make the car handle even better, but you will have to sacrifice more ride quality, and on todays roads that could be a real issue. Also a...
I am looking to purchase a new radiator for my car, as although the one in there isn't leaking it looks to be well past it's first flush of youth.
Are there any places which sell standard type replacements for reasonable money?
I know the regular 172 and the cup versions are different.
I did...
