^ Or you could get good old spray shack to do it ;) Save you time and effort I can't see them charging much being a grill and all. I personally start at 800 then work my way to 1000 then spray then 1500 - 2000 to wet sand the primer to a silky smooth finish.

Always sand mate! The best paint jobs is all about the prep the more time you spend prepping (sanding, flatting) the better finish you will get! Unfortunately it is fiddly but you will just have to do it :(
