Just thought I would try plugging a bit of shameless self promotion on here as I will need the work in a few weeks when I get home. Sure others on here can vouch for my work although don't think I have done any members cars on this forum directly.
Anyway, I have competitive rates and can offer...
Ha there will be no cleaning of the underside of my car...
...although I do have 3 months to kill over the summer, so I may well lose the last scraps of dignity I have by crawling underneath my car to clean it and all my neighbours thinking I am even stranger lol!
If its the wrong paint then will probably need to be wetsanded down, touched up again with the right paint and then relacquered and polished as a first option but if its bad it may need a respray if your serious about getting it 100% spot on.
Not sure who is from the NE from here, maybe try...
^ was thinking the same lol, the plastic is pretty soft anyways!
Also Rich, as much as I like your new car I think you need to upgrade your avatar, your old one with the 182 will take some beating...
EDIT: on inspection is appears to be a photo taken of the actual car and not just a random GTi...
Yeah Hydra is the brand, thats the one I have anyway and has lasted a good 3-4 years, not like something that wears out although the ones we used as the dealership were a bit worn on the lips, but that was using them on like 15-20 cars a day 6 days a week!
I know what the detailer means though, easy to just get the paint looking good, but when you want EVERYTHING cleaned, polished and sealed it starts getting time consuming...never bothered doing under my car as simply thats time I don't have, and, to be honest...it is under the car!
Yeah a "proper" polish as in removing defects 1-2 times a year (shouldn't be a need for any more) but something like SRP or Sonus Paint Cleanser on a finishing pad you could do every week if you wanted as won't remove anything.
I would DEFINITELY get some buffing towels though, work a million...
If you are going down this route and off to Halfords I would strongly suggest getting the Super Resin Polish* and Extra Gloss Protection and applying them first mate, will improve the texture of the paint and protection. Ideally you would clay the car too.
* a bit of a misleading name as its...
On mine (and not sure if this was my fault when initially trying to fit it, was really tight) but if you fit it all the way in the connection the bottle sits at a slight angle, so I have to not rotate it all the way. No loss of performance though but the kind of thing that annoys me.
Matt, any...
Yeah worth getting I would say, even if just used on the windows. On silver cars should be fine though if your carefull, although with a decent towel like the Miracle one doesn't take long anyway, especially if you have two - 10 minutes tops if your quick.
For me going to have to be a removing the wheel jobby, mine are FILTH right now, last time I started to do them between the spokes it just wasn't shifting and seemed almost sticky to the touch, so no doubt going to be a long day!
Its always better to polish and/or cleanse the paint before waxing to give it a good surface to bond to mate.
If you are just going to wax straight away and not use a sealant, the Dodo Juice Lime Prime that i4detailing sell could be a good shout.
And yes definitely a good shout on buying some...
They are pretty good if used in the right hands, although not used mine on the Clio for a while.
Just make sure to rinse it down to get any grit off it before using them and should be fine.
I use the Chemical Guys MF Wash stuff, just put some in a bowl with hot water and leave to soak, occassionally stiring around a bit. Works a bit better than in the machine, cleaner and softer...mmm! ;)
I don't have a filter, can see they would be usefull but washing in the shade and padding dry with some QD is fine for me, don't induce any swirls if you are carefull.
