    Detailing a Porsche

Cleaning implies removing dirt, when 80% of the time spent on getting a car looking its best involves treating and protecting surfaces.

Finally, pics of my 172, shame aboutthe camera!

Cheers mate, but it's actually Pearl Black on the 172... doesn't have quite the same colour depth as the Black Gold though I think, but looks a bit darker. Like the beast it is!

Finally, pics of my 172, shame aboutthe camera!

Hell yeh, which is good as it decided to rain/ snow last night! Hate this weather, wish I had a garage.

Finally, pics of my 172, shame aboutthe camera!

Thanking you. It's a shame, my Dad just got a new 8.1 mp Sony camera and was going to take some pics again yesterday, but the card was already full from photos from his holiday so didn't want to delete anyway. Better ones next time though!

    Water Blades?

Again, used with care they are 100% fine.

    Touch up paint

Think it is exactly the same, have had Renault and Halford's... exactly the same colour and quality IMO. Each colour paint has an exact formulation, if you go to a bodyshop they have a reference tool for each colour and just make it from that. Both pretty much the same price so go for either.

    Touch up paint

Halfords mate, got pretty much every colour...

Finally, pics of my 172, shame aboutthe camera!

Yeh, like most things, if you are careful with them they serve the purpose, good for getting most the water off and you can then just follow up with a towel. I have seen scratches from blades when people have wiped the handle across an almost dry surface. Not cool!

Finally, pics of my 172, shame aboutthe camera!

I disagree. I have used them for several years and never induced a single scratch from one. Key is to make sure you rinse them before use to ensure no grit is on them, and then to just be careful when you use them. I don't use mine only in the hotter months when the water evaporates meaning the...

First clean of my new BM..

Collinite has a really good glossy finish I think, but slighly mutes the metallic flake. Perfect for Winter (or 9 months of the year realistically in England!) and as it is dark most the time you can't really notice this anyway.

Quick Detailers CG .v. PB & CK

I have Synthetic Detailer and Speed Wipe. Speed Wipe is really good but, despite it's name, I would say takes longer to buff off than the Synthetic. Synthetic has a wetter look than the Speed Wipe, but this has a deeper look to it and probably provides more protection.

First clean of my new BM..

Yeh you will need to protect the paint or it won't stay looking new for long! Autoglym Super Resin Polish followed by Extreme Gloss Protection and a wax such as Chemical Guys 50/50 or P21s. Make sure to protect the wheels too. Shame they didn't offer you Seal & Protect, someones not doing their...

Finally, pics of my 172, shame aboutthe camera!

Just a shame the photos don't do it justice... the top photo especially doesn't look that great, but in real life the flake of thepaint is very vivid.

Finally, pics of my 172, shame aboutthe camera!

Fight, after much delay, finally set up a Photobucket account. Don't know why I took so long. The only problem is that I could only find my Dad's old Sony 5.0 mp camera and lacked the settings I wanted for some good close ups of the paint - the sun was out yet overcast in other areas, soreally...

First clean of my new BM..

Definitely not! Did you get offerend the new Seal & Protect product when you bought this car? They won't even let me try a bottle at the moment, tight buggers!;) Apparently it is pretty good though, but for that money you could get a really high-end wax.

What happens on the next clean?!

Main thing is to make sure you use a mild shampoo, such as Chemical Guys Extreme Body Wash (www.carwashnwax.co.uk) which will minimise the wax wearing away. Top up your wax every second or third wash, otherwise you can dry normally, then wipe down with a quick detailing spray (such as the CG...

    wheel cleaner

On my wheels I use AG SRP, Chemical Guys Wheel Guard and finally Collinite 476. I did two coats of this last time and dirt slides off with just soap and water, and look very glossy still even after a month of hard driving.

    How to remove scratches?

Bushes can be a big annoyance, good luck getting them out!

any links to vids of detailing

There was the one of that guy who cost £5000 a car, I am sure someone will have the link for it? TBH though no way on earth can you justify those prices, just individuals with too much money and too little brains.

best place to buy pads for the pc?

Does anyone have a PC and Menzerna products in the SE? I'm based near Reading and in St Albans (near Watford/ Hatfield/ Luton).... Still haven't got round to buying one myself so if anyone is excellent on the PC and would like to have a go on my 172... let me know! Only very minor swirls, no...

    superguard...

For £15 definitely worth it, but wouldn't pay more than that. Doesn't even last as long as most conventional sealant/ wax routes IMO.

    Best wax ???

I thought the XXX looked pretty good, but not quite the depth, gloss or clarity of say 50/50. I would recommend 50/50 as it provides the best results for the money.
  23. B

    Best wax ???

I think for the money 50/50 is very hard to beat. Even the XXX wax still has excellent results, I just found it didn't last that long. I did want to eat it though.

Poorboys Polish... actually putting more swirls on!!!?!

Shouldn't be the cloth or the product. Where they minor or major looking scratches in the paint? All I can think of is that perhaps you had some grit in the cloth. I use the yellow applicator pads and they do the job great, but anything advertised as an applicator should be absolutely fine to...

My Silver Clio never looks really clean

Agreed, the silver used on 182s looks the nuts. I would get one in silver next time, really like it a lot with the contrast of the anthracite wheels.

    Wheel Preperation! :D

Just treat your wheels like you would your paint on your car during the winter, i.e. maximum protection. AG SRP, CG Wheel Guard topped with a coat or two of Collinite 476 works for me - both in terms of looks and protection. Then I can just wash them with shampoo and water, dry down and give a...

    Wheel Preperation! :D

It says Collinite is a caranuba based product, but doesn't seem to be. It lasts very well in any case, and also brings out a really good level of shine if the wheel is polished underneath. I have a few tiny tar marks though so going to give the car the full works this weekend I think...

    Wheel Preperation! :D

I had 2 coats on mine, applied over Winter and still going strong. As long as you use just mild soapy water to clean should last for ages. You should be able to feel how well protected they are by running your finger along a spoke, should be able to feel the reassuring glide of freshly waxed...

First detail of the Black 106 Rallye S2

I stand corrected. Doesn't have the great quality materials of a Renault though! ;)
