Ye apparently they are made by Janspeed, and sold there, im sure there was a reason for the increased cost but cant remember it offhand.
End of the day if you want increases and to stay legal (no hassle come MOT) then sports cat, otherwise de-cat it is.
Its not bad. but the sports cat for k-tec is about £333.
There is also the option of a de-cat, but im not sure how that works on twin lambda cars (eg mk2 172/Cup)
Well after taking my car to the 1/4 mile strip once I am now all about engine/performance mods LOL so I too am interested in what people have found to be the best mods for the 172 engine.
Looking more and more into NOS the more I think hmm I would rather not do that, from simple things like...

If you get a 172, get the eibachs for it.. cheap mod and make the car much more planted.. the 172 has too much body roll as standard, Cup will be a lot planted but a few members have been caught out by the light rear end.
I ran a 15.4 in a standard mkII 172, was my first time on the 1/4 mile strip...the mk1 should be slightly faster.
Just go along and watch for 10 minutes first, you will pick it up really easy.
