Silly money I think. I am very happy with the Collinite's with 50/50 on top, really can't see how it could be improved really. Certainly not by the margin the prices suggest.
Maybe on a car with better paint, no way on a CS though!
Yeh I guess they will do.... especially if you charge £5k like that guy from 5th Gear.... that is madness though!
After today's freezing weather, I would want them to develop a wax with anti-freeze properties. That would be cool!
I think they have the best name for their products at least anyway. They sound like exotic aftershaves....
Still think that spending silly money on these products for a Clio isn't worth it, but that's just my opinion. When I get my M3, I may think differently :D
What polish are you using mate? Would probably be worth using a sealant and/ or a good wax, especially at this time of year. The road salt also screws up your car, I got blasted by a truck laying some the other night, was screwing!!
That is completely, scientifically wrong.... if its hot then it takes the water longer to reach freezing temperature than if its cold. Sorry to correct you but I am pedantic about scientific truth. No creationists, scientologists or religios fanatics in this fold! :rasp:
One thing I have come to realise, if you want to look after your car properly, you end up spending a lot of money... and then you just end up with hundreds of half used bottles/tins/sprays etc. Loads I never use any more simply because I have got better products and can't see myself ever...
Yeh all acids are horrible, whenever I get my cars serviced I put a note saying not to use any wheel acid or truck wash on my car. Probably looks a bit sad I would go to that trouble but just don't trust most valeters who work for large delaerships, especially Renault ones, they are thick as...
Yeh, AG SRP on the outside every so months then just a spray on the outside and inside with a microfibre as Rich says. I try to use as little as possible though... it does annoy me when you think it looks spotless but as soon as you are in direct sunlight there is normally a little spot I have...
Tomatoes/ tomatos... I love using the M Seal! MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!
And I have also found the Megs stage 3 Carnuba wax works amazingly well on my Mum's Golf, but looks s**t on my car. Go figure.
I think its mainly the cold weather causing the problems. When I put the Jeffs spray on a few weeks ago (cheers for the recommendation BTW) it was quite hard to remove, and the Collinite was rock solid. Now done yet another layer (just to be sure :boring:) and now I feel like Popeye.
Have to...
Yeh I have seen products being applied by hands, can't see any advantage myself, personally I get eczema on my hands anyway from waxes and lubricants (:S) so don't think I would ever want to do that anyway! All I can say is that Collinite 486s is an absolute b**ch to take off in the cold, seems...
Yeh I was thinking that maybe it was durability/ ease of use and some slight improvements looks wise. I would never bother getting this for the Clio though, don' t think the paint is good enough to warrant it, and not to mention how much it costs in relation to the car itself.
Just comparing...
It's not normally that cheap, was just in the old style packaging to wanted to clear the lines, plus my Dad works there which could have helped somewhat.... :boring:
Yeh I nticed that too, not sure why that is though, maybe it does not react well with the wipers but I haven't noticed anything negative whilst using it TBH. Other than that though, once the windows are clean most glass sprays I have used seem to work pretty much the same, that is to say they...
I think so - they use Sonax in all GM delaerships and Saab is GM owned so could well be just in a different package. It is very waxy and foams up better than the Wash n Wax so seem to compliment each other well. Plus my Dad managed to procure the bottles for £2 each :D
My new combo involves the CG wash n wax stuff plus the Saab gloss shampoo - a remarkably good product, seems to leave a very clean and glossy finish not even using a QD when drying.
When I worked at Saab, we were constantly getting new cars in, especially black ones, where it looked like water was in the paint. It turns out it was actually under the laquer, to get rid of it we used heat guns from a safe distance and it evaporated, you can try something similar with a hair...
I have used "normal" car polish on the windows before and come up very well, something very mildly abrasive like AG Super Resin Polish works pretty well, just be carefull not to get any on the plastics inside as it looks messy.
Yeh I'm sure he won't, just stating that there are many others on here who detail professionally or as a serious hobby so as good as Rich is, there are others with equally valid tips. If Rich doesn't mind fielding every question then thats very good of him just trying to lighten his workload so...
Its not rocket science, think a group of individuals can come up with solutions without having to rely on Rich all the time!
Will be asking him how to brush your teeth next! He learnt mainly through experience as a lot of others have, its the best way IMO.
Yeh, can be a pain to get off but should be ok if you get it before it becomes thoroughly stuck on. I have got tar off before with only using a bit of polish, but that was when the tar was fresh.
I've used it by hand and it came up perfectly, its not as sensitive as the polishing stage. Make sure you get some photos up of the bad boy when your done, its a bad boy!
Yeh I think Renault paint is turd. Either that or the front end of the Clio attracts chips somehow. My Dad's Porsche is older than my car, he doesn't take as good care of it product wise as I do, and he rags it - and yet his front end is spotless. My car has a few chips on the front despite...
w*****s! Egg is very hard to get off for some reason and often scratches the paint to hell. In the colder weather I would try leaving a warm/ hot leather over it for a few minutes to soften it up, then try a product like an insect remover if you have any, and follow up with Scratch X afterwards...
Agreed. Go soon though, the longer you leave it the more likely it is they will deny it. Don't be too aggressive, just be assertive in the fact that you are 100% positive they inflicted the damage and that you wanted it rectified, and as soon as possible. Shouldn't require a respray though.
Still, if they inflicted the damage it doesn't matter if you paid or not. It could be considered vandalism!!
Up to you mate, but I would not be happy at all if it had happened to mine. The only problem may be proving they did the damage, as they could deny it.
