Kind of big update, First (albeit short) drive done!
So I started the day with a quick trip to the scrap yard, I was in need of an air temp sensor, got 3 so I have some spares (y) I found a nice exhaust rubber so that was also taken along with the fuel level sensor from a Twingo. This was to...
Take one clio exhaust that kind of fits, make up a 2.5inch exhaust to replace it using plenty of scrap bits and bish bash bosh one PMT exhaust that will do for now. The back box does poke out a little too much but for something made from scrap itll do. Also @Nick Kettle came in with a meg 225...
Them red marks all over the heat shield
that's my blood, this car keeps hurting me
In other news I have enough bits to make the rest of the exhaust up (y) that's next weeks job
Ten min my ass! lol well loosening the subframe wasn't the issue, the 3 inch front pipe is simply too big to fit over the twingo subframe. Some manipulation to the pipe now has it in place but it's very very close and after swearing loads at fitting it it will probably need some more...
The older I get the more I hate it lol
I received a miltek front pipe from @Brigsy today, looks just the ticket but it wont fit past the subframe, so I need to create 10mm of space or drop the subframe to fit it. Dropping the subframe would be nicer but i don't want to have to do that if i need...
Cold side wrapped up though I need to get an intake temperature sensor to fully complete it. Rigged up with spares as normal but fits nicely now. Also popped down to my mate at forge motorsport and grabbed a blanking plate (for that cho cho cho flutter noise) and hose to use as a turbo intake...
So the plan this week is to test drive the car for a few miles (with no exhaust) No load and very partial throttle so the ecu can try and target lambda. So new rad fitted up curtesy of @RustyMojo who had a spare in his garage that he will probably need after selling it on :ROFLMAO: So that was...
I'm pretty sure you can change 5th gear and it's synchro without removing the whole box, just remove the end cap and you have access to everything (still need to drain the box of fluid though)
A friend sorted me with some more bits today, namely a forge motorsport boost pipe. So made a start on the cold side boost pipework using the chopped up Forge pipe, I'm waiting on getting my Throttle body back which I'm having welded up with a bit of ali. Standard has a plastic pipe bolted to it...
Having owned both years ago its a tough call now. I loved my 172 cup and would have another at the drop of a hat (if i had the funds) I had a 2 year old one from Renault, so much fun to drive and abuse and felt a lot nicer (though id still like one) than my ph1 172. Raw light and special also...
Ive never worked with the RS Tuner other than to flash many years ago and clear fault codes so someone else may be better to answer that question, Clip gets my vote for live data, fault finding and coding things in and out. There are a few other bits of kit out there too but I haven't used them...
On the backwards gear shifter thing it looks like I can just unpin the selector off the box and refit a correct on from a Twingo or possibly Clio mk3 dci. As long as it comes from a car with a floor mounted shifter it should be fine where as I think my box came from a car with a dash mounted...
Clip is Renault specific dealer level diagnostic equipment that you can buy a clone version of and run it on a laptop. Great bit of kit.
RS Tuner is an aftermarket bit of equipment that also offers diagnostics as well as the ability to flash maps to the ecu
Dialogys is a Renault access...
Not much to report as not much has been going on. I re shaped the header tank a little and took a lip off the inlet manifold to create a touch more clearance, looks like it'll be fine but if not there a dacia/meg header tank that might be usable. The turbo to downpipe gasket turned up so that's...
shouldn't do, that engine should be on full boost by 2000rpm tops. my last one could hit full by 1500rpm in the right gear.
engine swap is involved and will take a lot of working out but if you are handy with a spanner all doable. I'm currently fitting the F4rt 2.0ltr turbo in my twingo gt...
not sure what engine they come with? if its the d4ft with injectors, intercooler air filter and a remap by someone decent (EFI parts or RS Tuning) you should see 140+bhp and 140+lbft of torque.
I was considerate, I didn't rev past 2500rpm............ luckily I do get on with nearly all of them. Well to my face no ones complained about this or the Dope which is currently staining the road :ROFLMAO:
shifter is backwards, so dog leg first and reverse where 5th is but other than that all seems good. I think the fix is to find the matching shift tower and cables to the box as swapping them over just causes it to lock out of all gears.
I haven't but dekker motorsport (on fb) has recently mapped a clio 4 1.6t engine in a clio 3. That in my mind says its certainly very possible and the engine and gearbox would be an awesome base for something super fruity
In fairness I have no idea, cant say I've ever seen one for sale, I know there's 2 or 3 RS converted versions about. Ill let you know if i do think of selling up though, cheeky reach around might do it? :ROFLMAO:
