I went for the bottom in the end.
I'm at 6 hours so far with the OSF balljoint to bolt up and ns shock/hub/driveshaft to bolt up.
Only trouble is, I'm worried after forgetting to unbolt the rack, I might have pulled on it too hard - I found both halves of the column pulled apart.
I'll have a look at that.
The box has had a lot of abuse since the new suspension - lower to the ground, more vibration, not to mention the drive shafts hitting the chassis legs (just as you warned me :P )
Runs from up along side what I presume is the reverse switch and down along the bottom of the casing
Not sure what caused it. Theres the odd scuff and scrape, so I guessed it was probably an impact of some kind.
That said, I tried a temp bodge with Chemical metal and the chemical metal has...
I wasn't after a full health check, just any characteristics of some issues that may be noticeable with the box off.
The frustrating thing is, I know my box is good if not for the crack in the main box housing :(
I'll chuck it on and take my chances before stripping the old one down to have...
Someone mentioned to me a while back that its possible to get the gearbox out of the top.
I'm a little sceptical, but anything that's saves a bit of time (and rolling around on the floor) sounds like something worth investigating to me.
So, is it possible?
Read up on how to find Polaris.
In the Northern Hemisphere, all stars will appear to rotate around it, so I just lined up the top of the spire with Polaris :)
I bought a Screwfix one the other day - I think it was under £25 and I think its great for the money.
Being BS marked, it has to meet a certain level of accuracy (good enough for me) and it saves me buying the wheel brace I needed, too!
What's difficult about setting it? I thought it was easy...
The default mysql install won't have the correct headers AFAIK.
Get homebrew or Mac ports and install mysql through one of those, then you should be good!
I'm not having much luck with the Clio recently!
There's a lot of oil under the car and on the gearbox.
On the gearbox, its soaked the selector, ns driveshaft seal, subframe around that area etc.
I'm unsure if its gearbox oil - its golden and clean (which my engine oil certainly is not), but...
As already said, if the sliders move freely, just sounds like pads too tight.
The larger surface area ds2500s need the ends filing down on the pad - there are guides if you do a search.
This is surely a case of the mechanic being a r****d in general rather than not understanding the F4R though, surely?
Who would do it without checking TDC and timing marks?
Unless this hole is at TDC for 2/4? Which would be ridiculous?
