Lol, easy to mess the timing up, glad you sorted it.
My neighbour bought my wife's old 197 4 years ago and he now has it up for sale.
It's more than 12 months overdue a cambelt, so offered it me back.
Looks like I have another cambelt to change!
Ironically, my 182 had the belt changed by a...
If you're 100% sure the timing is correct.
Are the plug leads the correct way round?
Are all the sensors and hoses connected, is the cat/exhaust/inlet blocked?
Back firing is neat fuel in the exhaust being ignited.
Personally, I still think the timing is out.
Where about are you?
Fitted a new genuine aux pulley and even that has a little wobble.
I marked the pulley before I torque and angle tightened it, this is well worth doing as my mate slipped whilst holding the flywheel.
Car is back together now and pulls like a train.
Fitted the new aux pulley and even that wobbles a little!
Fitted a new crank bolt and torque and angle tightened it, luckily I marked the bolt in several places as my mate slipped whilst holding the flywheel!!
Aircon recharged and ready for another 137000 miles.
Cylinder 1 is nearest the flywheel.
I had a plastic straw to show TDC, but as it gets near the top, it's quite difficult to see when it's stopped moving.
I got somebody (my 14 year old!) to turn the crank near TDC until the pin went in, however, it didn't go all the way in. I then pulled it out...
Bigger half moon needs to be at the top as you view them.
Even if the timing is slightly out it won't run properly ( as I found out last week).
By chance, did you pin the crank in the cut out rather than the balancing drilling?
1 & 4, 2 & 3 fire together, so it doesn't look like the coil is faulty.
Could be leads not fitted correctly or a wiring fault to the 2 injectors, surprised it ran with 2 faulty injectors though.
I emailed Mick at Diamond to see what he thought.
Will video it again tonight, pin the crank and cams and take it off for a better look before buying a new one.
Wondered if anybody elses was like this!
Only one bolt, but I reckon I've over stretched the crank pulley bolt and have ordered a new one, however it's up to 100nm, enough for the pulley to be centered.
I've just replaced the cambelt on my 182 and noticed the crank pulley has a wobble!
It could have been like this for years, but something may have happened during the cambelt swap.
Anybody else had this? Or can anyone have a look a theirs to see if it wobbles!
Thanks
Been thinking about this, I reckon the pulley has always had a wobble, and the bolt was stretching.
It was torquing up to 100nm as I backed the torque wrench off several times to see if it would click.
There's a guy at work who will be able to help with an answer.
I've a spare bolt that is way...
I had some motorbike wheels come out like that in the 80's!
From memory, they leave them in an oven to allow the gases to escape.
I've used city powder coaters in Birmingham. They are cheap and I wouldn't say show standard, but they are pretty damned good and a bargain price. Will be getting...
Well, think I have it sorted, looks like it was the timing.
It was slightly out, interesting as it was done by a specialist-can't remember who, but not Diamond, Fred or Dan.
Timing was out to start with, but I reckon in relation to the crank position, it worked ok, I must have moved it in...
Horseshoe on cams wouldn't quite go in.
I left it like this as it was like it when I stripped it down. It ran fine so I left it the same.
Will order new seals and look at loosening the pulleys and setting it up by the book, but think there's another issue as it ran fine with the timing slightly out.
Thanks for the replies.
I haven't got access to clip so need to try and fix this somehow without.
I don't want to mess with the timing as it ran fine before, and it's set the same, but I'm not ruling this out. I phoned my local Renault yesterday to buy a new exhaust pulley nut and they said...
Right, my 140K 182 isn't running correctly.
Story so far, It ran fine, did 40mpg on the run to work every day, but has had a misfire for the last 6 months, under load between 1250 and 2000rpm that was intermittent but was getting worse.
It was overdue a cambelt so I thought I'd have a go...
Sorry, what I was trying to work out is if I spend £600 having the belts done, would it be worth much more that it's current value of £1000.
The car isn't mint, but it's certainly not a pup.
I've inherited the wife's 182 (she now has a 200).
It has 134k on the clock and is a month overdue a cam belt.
Car is worth £1k.
If the belt snapped it would be worth £500 tops in parts. New belt etc would be £600.
How much would the car be worth if I sold it and is it worth the cost?
I've just bought the wife a 200.
The cam belt was done by a 'back street' garage about 30 months ago, aux belt is already cracked??
I've booked the car in with Diamond motors for aux/cam belt, water pump etc, but is it worth getting the dephaser replaced?
When I had my old 200 and 197 belts...
I've just bought a 200 that had a cam belt 2 1/2 years ago by Billy back street :(
I was contemplating getting the belts done, but when I was sorting the dropped door today (had the wheel arch liner out) I noticed the aux belt was cracked!
So, Fred was the last person who did a cambelt for...
Well, back in 2010, we ordered an RS200 in white with a cup pack. Whilst we were there, we looked at another white cup pack RS with the reg CL10GAS.
Roll on a few years and my mates dad bought it.
Sadly, at the end of last year he died and I've just been offered the car.
I apologise if this is...
