The myth about the wider track is only due to the different wheel offsets A 172 Cup is ET38.5 182 and Trophy is ET45 The lower the offset the more they stick out giving the 'wider track'

It won't need to be a sport model, any side airbag will do although I don't think they came on mk2 ph1 models apart from the 172's so your best bet will be any mk2 ph2 2001 onwards

The tyres are already lower profile than the 15's on a dynamique 172 wheels usually have 45 profiles on Dynamique wheels usually 55 profiles The difference in the rolling radius is tiny, the ride quality will be far more noticable due to the lower profiles
