Pretty much confirms what anyone who has owned both would say. Speed wise, pretty hard to seperate. Different delivery in the Clio, more low down torque. As for handling, the VTS is the better car but not by a massive amount.
Hi,
Went to start my 172 up this morning, turned the key to 2, heard the fuel pump prime, turned over fine but wouldn't start. Tried 3 or 4 times to no avail.
Could this be something to do with the key? I've heard of a few owners on here pressing the key button as they turn the ignition.
The...
It's a forum that revolves around Renaultsport hot hatches and is more inclined towards "drivers cars", generally speaking.
None of the above you've listed have been renowned for making great drivers cars, as a result they're not the kind of marques that appeal to most people on here.
I agree...
I agree Dan, it's pretty open minded on here. I think you'll find many people have strong opinions on MG's, they have a poor reputation in general, that is nothing to do with cliosport being "blinkered".
Why come on here then if you're clearly peeved by the fact people are happy with their Clios? They have their reasons for rating them above other cars (including the ZR), hence why they own them.
I think the forum is quite realistic and open minded about other cars, generally speaking.
For the...
Good stuff mate...it seemed like it had a lot of recent work done on it so I'm not suprised.
I picked one up at £1250 and same as you I'm amazed at how solid it seems for so little money. Look forward to seeing where this goes.
Hi all,
Has anyone done this? What would be the best way of going about it?
Mine is rather tatty and it's annoying me slightly.
I was thinking of a sand down and paint but would want to get it as close to the original colour as possible.
Many thanks,
Alex.
Seemed like a good honest car this one, was gonna buy it but another one came up at a similar price more local to me.
You're not messing about I see, new plates and engine bits sprayed already! Nice work. Pleased with the car?
Nope. I saw a very tidy standard one with 69k and in what was described to be perfect mechanical and body condition go for £2k on PH.
I picked up a tidy one with 104k and FSH for only £1250, I sold my 106 gti for £500 more lol!
I used to own a 106 gti which is the same suspension wise as a VTR. The saxo/106 handles better for me, more fun, more adjustable, less body roll, faster turn in standard v standard.
The clio rolls about a fair bit standard (easily sorted with Eibach springs so I'm told) but it digs in and...
Nice buy. I'd keep the PH1 172, for what you'd get for it, it's barely worth selling. You've got the perfect line up this way.
The MK5 makes a great daily but I'll echo what Chris and gally have said, it's almost too refined and too reserved for a performance motor. My mate had one at 20 and it...
I was going to buy this one! From stourbridge yes?
How much did you give for it in the end if you don't mind asking? I was going to try the bloke for a grand, but another one cropped up more local to me in the end.
I renewed to comment in your ZS project thread! Lol
Btw if a gearbox goes on a 106/saxo - £100 for a second hand one or £300 for a rebuild
If an engine goes- £200 second hand for a low mileage, £400 will get you a JP4 which is a newish/revised 1.6 engine out of 307's, 1007's and the likes.

As far as 'cheap' trackday cars go, I wouldn't look past a 106/Saxo. Such a huge market of used aftermarket parts, easier to work on, cheaper to fix and because half of them are tatty anyway you won't feel so bad ripping it apart.
