Lofty, are you talking about track rods or track rod ends? I need to change the track rod on the off side front. Basically can you tell me how the track rod is connected to the rack and how you take it off? and are they prone to wear at this point? Ive checked my track rod outer ball...

Can anyone tell me if the track rod can be replaced on its own without replacing the whole rack? If so how is it connected to the rack? Thanks

GR, A previous owner of my car has covered all the badges with some sort of gold coating which looks tacky, its already started to peel off in places so Im going to take them off and try and get the rest off.

What would stick them back on securly as Ive got to take mine off?

My Gear leaver used to spring back to the middle when in the neutral position now it seems loose stays where ever it is left exept when moving it to the right then it springs back firmly to the middle. Any ideas whats causing this? Thanks

Grey16v, Sounds like it is the steering rack to me if theres quite a lot of play, where as mine has a bit of play(2mm ish) but still wonders badly thats why i was unsure if it was the rack in my case.

I cleaned up the exspansion cap today, sprayed rubber & nylon lubricant on it. The smell went totally for about an hour or so but after stopping the engine for a bit and restarting there was a little of the smell again but it soon cleared. Yeah mine did too untill I had the pump replaced, still makes a few odd noises when turning though, but Ive heard this is quite normal for the 16v/williams. Fluid level is fine, it just seems to leak a little from the breather in the cap. I pretty confident I can do the lower ball joints...

Seems to me that reno put alot of work in designing the original exhaust system to give the standard engine the maximum amount of power in the right place, all these big bore exhausts do is sap the power in the lower rev range(where you need it the most) and give a little more when nearly redlining!
