pretty accurate guide I'd say since based on simple maths and physics
as long as the numbers in are accurate:
1)Makers claimed kerbweighs vary - look at Autocar - claimed and 'as tested' can be 100kg different
2) Claimed and actual bhp can be around 10% different too
If 1 & 2 are...
Re: NATIONAL CLIOSPORT MEET IDEAS?
How about a 'simultaneous' meet at EVERY major grand prix circuit?
or maybe choose 6 to cover the county?
we could all get to our nearest or a different one if our plans change!!
^ ^ DEFINITELY!
Think about it?
a) dealers have forecourts full of cars that will all be effectively one year older in a week or two
b) many private sellers are desperate for cash cos they've just put 2K on their credit card in M&S, Next and Toys R Us!
I bought a car at auction on...
I guess you are covered on someone else's insurance?
First policy for a bloke @ 18 on a 172 would be £1000's, as said probably 3K+
I'd say 20+ with no claims before you'd get it down to a sensible price :-(
why not try one of the online ones (elephant is quite quick) and just add 9...
it's a nippy motor with a blower, gutless without

a re-map might be interesting tho
The Trophy will become an 'icon' as the 'last' light basic hot hatch - anything later will NEVER EVER recreate than mark 1 Golf GTi/205 1.9 GTi feel that the Trophy betters!
the NCAP 5 stars (probably become 6 star), EURO 5 Emissions, 56 airbags etc. will all kill the 'pocket rocket'
NO!
dCi 80 came out spring 2003, won nearly every small diesel award going and so i bought one!
the earliest are about May 2003, so most are 53, 04 on
3K+, 6-7K for the latest low mileage minters (55's)
considered best of 3 cos low low insurance (mine is £300 FC protected with...
as well as running on fresh air they'll also see off a Scooby..........
I had one up my ar*e yesterday from Cambridge to Bedford and I kept pulling away from him up to 100+
When he came up really close at a roundabout, it had no bonnet scoop
a near full WRC replica with a standard...
£350!
I've spent less than that in 60K (three services and discs)
I'd feel less hurt if I'd dropped the soap in a Lifers Wing Shower!
P.S: oil drips are common if they make a dogs ars* of catching the oil from the filter and leave it running everywhere!
1) think long-term mate.
if it's a pukka appenticeship, you could easily be in a mint late 182 in a year or two with a few years no claims under your belt!
2) do you need a car at all? if it's feasible to cope without (a 10 mile commute on a racing bike is a cracking way to stay fit - I...
Re: Would you buy a 100,000 mile 182
30K a year is not actually massive mileage - I've seen 3 year olds with 200K at auction!
BUT it ain't gonna sell in a hurry with that mileage and non-cup suspension
I'd say IF it's spotless with FSH, motorway miles it's a good buy
TIP: wait a...
Having sat on the ar*e of a 1.6 16v Suzuki Swift from zero to 80 (rated @ 8.9 to 60 and 120mph+), I'd say a re-mapped dCi 80 (now 110 & 180lb/ft) is easily on a par with a 1.6 16V Clio (110 and 110lb/ft)
in 5th it WILL match a 182 from 50-90mph (I've proved it several times) simply because...
from then on it's more difficult to return to original quickly
My spare seats are permanently in the garage - the seats belts still work so forced my niece to sit in the back on the metal on her fleece when I picked her up once!
eaay mods:
1) - remove all junk - glove box, boot, door pockets etc
2) - lift our rear seat bases and unused head rests
3) - spare wheel/jack etc - when was the last time you had a puncture?
(carry can of foam)
Total saving close to 50kg or equivalent to 5bhp on a typical one tonne...
to keep the RS brand 'special' - i.e. plebs without RS models can't 'fake' cars (and tarnish the brand) without major effort/expense
your sincerely
dCi pleb
P.S: perhaps BM should do the same to stop 520d's dressed as M-5's!
a 172/182 is only about 25/30mm lower than an ordinary car (01-05 model anyway)
40mm on a standard motor gives almost spot on for that 'natural' look
silver door badges go long way too (mine are silver dci)
^ ^
I got 'em done on mine for £122 parts & labour in 2004 @ BB in Essex (40mm Apex, standard shocks)
Bit crashy, but better than standard. Original shocks still fine too @ 58K (48K lowered)
Max. £150/180 now all-in?
