    bargain williams on autotrader!!

Agree with Stromba on the "age, not mileage" point. My Williams with 59k on the clock is having loads of attention that I gave my Valver when it was over 100k. The guy could be genuinely selling a low mileage mint Williams for £3,200, but I reckon theres something well suspect about it...

    RT and Valver comparison.

After hearing loads of good stuff about the 106 GTi, I was looking at them after Id sold my mint Valver. I was not impressed - yes, they gripped well, but were much less solid hanlers than the Valver was and although they were a match off the mark, through the gears they felt off Valver pace...

The April one is out on Thursday AFAIK, although the March one has a very good write up of the 182 with some good action photos.

I saw one registered on a 53 plate in Bristol the other day. Looked nice in black with the anthracite wheels. Could Joe Public get one registered before tomorrow?

    Chamois Maintenance

I have used a chamois on and off for about three years, but I always go back to some freshly washed towels (warm and damp, straight from the washing machine). For some reason, I have a brainwave every six months or so that a chamois would be better than this, but am always disappointed...

    Valver MPG

I drove from Scotland to London once all the way at 55mph in the Valver! I got 420 miles from the tank on that run, which is about 47mpg. The needle on Valvers and Willys stays glued to full for about 100 miles, but then drops really quickly - especially after half way. The best way to get...

    Difference between the Williams’s

I replaced the glass in my drivers side mirror and found that it was one of those mannifying ones, so it makes everything look loads closer than they are! Makes me think everyones tailgating me! What with that and the general shaking of the mirrors, theyre practically useless.

    Valver MPG

If you get 300 miles to a 9 gallon tank, then youre doing about 33mpg. I used to get 300-350 miles to the tank of my old Valver with normal driving, being about 33 to 39mpg. The Willy is a fair bit worse for some reason. Id be lucky to get 300 miles to a full tank.

Yeah, but its got the same mirror casings as all the Phase1 Clios, some of which - shock - werent rally homologation specials! lol

    Difference between the Williams’s

When I was looking for a Williams, Id previously had a Phase2 16V so preferred the look and build of the Willy 2 and 3. But when it came down to it, I just looked at the most mint cars regardless of whether it was a particular version of Williams. As it happens, the car I saw was a Willy 1...

    williams 3 article

Mmmm... Ill definitely be buying that issue! Or maybe two, so I can read one to tatters and then keep the other for my collection! The TG article is full of bull - you get the jist, but its not right at all.

    Difference between the Williams’s

The Willy 1 also has an enlarged, colour-coded rear lip spoiler. Some 400 or so of the original 2500 Williams were called "Swiss Champion", for the Swiss market. The UK got nos 0002 to roughly 425 (because there are some LHD ones numbered under 425) and Switzerland got the next 400 or so...

    Difference between the Williams’s

Williams: The original homologation special, 400 RHD cars, numbered individually and made in late 1993. Basically, Renaultsport took advantage of FIA Rallying rules that allowed engine capacity of up to 2.0 litres when a car was homologated (at the time, they were using the 1764cc Clio 16V as...

    Willaims Track Day Car

A 16V would be a better base for a track car, mainly because the place you get the extra benefit from a Williams is on lumpy, twisty B-roads. A track is smooth, so dropping it to the floor works well - but if youre doing that then youre best off getting a 16V, which costs a lot less to buy...

    My RR Power Run - 173bhp & 189lb/ft

As an ex tuned 16V owner - and with the very greatest of respect - my old "171bhp" 16V probably really ran about 155bhp as I found out when I had it RRd myself. The torque was also about 130lb/ft at peak, perhaps 110lb/ft at 2500rpm if I recall correctly. Again, with the greatest of...

Clio Williams On Sky TV NOW

The Top Gear feature in this months issue is full of inaccuracies! I just read it and cringed at the very obvious lack of proper research, complemented by the pub-bravado "facts" about Williams involvement in the development. Did you know that apparently the stock 16V was a 2.0 (not a...

Williams 3 Soon for Sale. Price Help

It would appeal to more people and get a higher price if it was standard. Youd also make more money by selling the mods separately. If youre selling to the vultures on Cliosport, expect about £4-4.5k for it as standard. Youd probably be able to ask £5k for it otherwise, given that it was...

    Williams1 #400 For Sale

There were officially 400 RHD examples of the Williams, not necessarily being numbers 0002 to 0401 (as weve seen). Most of the LHD press cars were numbered less than 400, so there have to be some RHD cars numbered over 400! Mines No.0123. Doesnt add any monetary value as far as Im...

OK - it does seem that there are a number of people who have very trusty Valvers and to a certain extent mine was too. Clio 16v search

Sorry? Take it up to 4500rpm? You need to rev it to 7300rpm to get anywhere in a Valver! Mate, got to warn you that a Clio Valver is not a cheap car to run. You might be lucky and get a peach of a car that never needs more than oil and brake pads, but most will give you at least couple of...

    Handling - Willy Vs 16v

Cheers Matty. Im not 100% on the tyre story thing as discussed above, but Id like to stick to what works on my car at the minute. The Michelin HXs on at the moment are definitely the best tyres Ive had so far (and Ive had lots, on other cars admittedly). So I want to stay with what I know...
