    FAO Clio 16v owners

Oh yes! Not one of the new crappy Audis, but the proper old-skool SWB coupe with fat arches etc!! Mmmm. Proper rally pedigree too. Very unlike the frankly shyte offerings of todays mass-market VW-with-a-sprinkle Audi.

i cant decide= bike or car

Motorbikes are very nice and youll get a hell of a lot more of a bike for £3k than you would of a Williams. Youd get a nice 16V for the money though! Just spent £2.5k myself on a mountain bike. I have cheaper cars that dont depreciate to help me fund my MTB habit! Otherwise Id have been in...

    Opinion on rs focus

Theres a lad with one in my village. Got to say it was a great sight walking out of the petrol station shop the other day to see his Focus RS parked next to my just-waxed Williams (does anyone else notice that their Williams goes purple in garage lights?). The thing is, while both are...

    decat to 1.4 16v clio

The de-cat I put on my old 16V was the best mod I ever did. That may be due to the nature of that particular car, but Id do it again if I was in the mood to mod. It wont propell you down the road any faster, but it will make the delivery a bit sharper. Get a silenced one if you dont like...

    Williams to 172/Cup

I sold my 16V last year and went car-less for a bit, while taking my time getting a new car and looking at my options. At the time of sale, a Cup, 172 and 106 GTi were the strongest contenders. Im a perfectionist and my 16V had cost me a lot to run during the two years I had it - nearly...

    Mk1 172 Exclusive

I used to live next door to a guy in Bristol with a 172 Exclusive. I loved that car. Its not a homologation special like the Willy and nobody knows that its any different over a normal Ph1 172, but people like me will keep an eye out for them as they get cheaper. Worth finding one Im sure...

    Nasty damage to Willy

Im afraid it doesnt look that simple to me. The door might be re-shaped, but the rear arch is a double-skinned panel, so beating the panel isnt really an option. At first glance, all you see is the damage next to the filler cap; that can be easily repaired. The damage to the front of the...

    New Williams Owner

Just to add to Rajs comment about warming before driving: Id personally not let the car idle to warm it up. Just pootle about slowly (under 3,000rpm) until the temperature rises to about 80degC. This is because most engine wear occurs on start up and idling doesnt allow the oil to fully...

    16v with over 100k mileage - problems

Its age rather than mileage that causes a lot of wear and tear. My Williams with under 60k on the clock is having all the jobs my 105k Valver was having. 60-80k is the most expensive mileage: a car with over 100k will usually have had all the expensive jobs done.

172 again or ibiza cupra r

The Ibiza Cupra was a nice hot hatch, but considering it cost £17,000 versus the £14,000 of a 172 it was overpriced IMO when new. Only 75 came to these shores AFAIK, so you could have a job finding one. Are they really better than a standard 156bhp Ibiza Cupra 1.8T? It still has the...

    2.0 litre conversions

The Valver doesnt make much more torque that the RSi admittedly and it will be at higher revs, but it will still be a quicker car than the 2.0 Laguna lump. Plus, you cant swap the bottom end from a 2.0 8v Laguna AFAIK. Then, of course, there is the Willy lump. More than enough torque at...

    16v questionns

Phase2 came in March 1992, so there are a good few Phase2 L reg 16Vs out there (I had one). The differences are cosmetic only on the 16V (inside and out). The Phase2 cars have more soundproofing, seatbelt pre-tensioners and side impact bars, with an airbag from about September 1994. Also...

    Williams rust :(

Renault used to sell the 16V/Williams rear panels in three strips, as they do with those of the normal Mk1. They now only sell the entire panel, at about £350 per side and you can only get them from Renault. Fortunately, unless the rust is extremely bad you can still repair the rust using...

    Clio Williams

Heres a quick guide for you: Williams: The original homologation special, 400 RHD cars, numbered individually and made in late 1993. Basically, Renaultsport took advantage of FIA Rallying rules that allowed engine capacity of up to 2.0 litres when a car was homologated (at the time, they...

    Clio Williams

I had a 16V while I was at uni. It sucked every last penny I had into its bonnet bulge!! (I was also working p/t @£450 per month to keep it going!). How Ive ended up without debt I dont know! Actually, thats a point BTW. If you can stand a few big bills, then its worth considering a 16V in...

    Clio Williams

My no.1 tip for cheap insurance is to try adding your mum/selected senior female as a named driver. Brought mine down from £750 to under £600! (Admiral, 23 yrs, 3 yrs NCB). The Williams isnt really that much different to buy than a 16V - that goes for the maintenance and general ownership...

    FAO Stromba

I pay my £5 to support the club and in particular the forum. I agree with Stromba on many things, but I think its appropriate to support a forum that enables so much info to be exchanged. You may not like some of the personalities or the some of the rules, but you can still "donate" £5...

    SI 16v / 1.4 RT

There is no 1.4 16v engine available in the Mk1. The 1.4 16v was only available after 1999 in the Mk2 Ph1 (carried over to the Ph2). Prior to that, all Clios used variations of the 1.4 8v Energy unit.

    Induction Kits

I had a K&N 57i on my old Mk1 1.2 (which, because its also an "Energy" unit, uses the same airbox/throttle body as the 1.4). It was, quite frankly, crap. I thought it was good at the time, but mainly because of the noise. Between that and the big wheels, the car was definitely slower. I dont...

    182 Yellow - Why’s it so expensive

Thats a shame - I really like that yellow, even if it does resemble a 1980s BT van. Looks amazing with the anthracite wheels. http://www.rs-team.org/Images/Actu/RS3/officielle5.jpg
