I did all that 16v - 2.0 mentioned above to my old Valver and it made a lot of difference (it was on about 90k at the time).
IMO people spend a lot of time discussing which mod to do next, when the real performance gains are to be had by taking the time and care to renew all the little bits...
The gritty brake noise is mainly audible in the last few seconds of braking at slow speeds. I cant really tell if the brakes are any worse than normal.
Are you really sure about this lower ratio gearbox on the Maxim? Im sure weve all got better things to do than discuss this:oops:, but Id like to see some evidence! Ive never come across this before and have to ask why Renault would go to the trouble of fabricating a different gearbox for what...
Rockport - my old Valver was on 103k when I sold it and the steering rack was fine (as was the gearbox and a number of other things that can go at low mileages)
Cheers for that Jimbo.
The N/S/F wheel bearing is on its way out (although Im very sensitive to these things, so its not bad yet), but the car toy noise doesnt go away when I steer away from the near-side and when the bearing noise goes. Its always there from about 30mph+ whatever I do!
Are you sure about the shorter ratio gearbox? They didnt even do that in the Williams or Cup.
The RT is a fairly solid car. Most of the problems you hear of relate mainly to the 16V (or similar) because they have more complicated mechanicals and they get a beating at the hands of their...
Hello all
Im just starting to get some of the inevitable problems on my Williams that I experienced during my Valver ownership, e.g. needs a new dog-bone engine mount and N/S/F wheel bearing. The car has 57k on the clock and Id love some advice on:
1. Recently my brakes have been sounding...
Way too many people use fogs at inappropriate times. I often ask people why: they say its because the car looks good in the adverts with them on. Never mind blinding oncoming traffic! :(
Some say because of weather conditions... but seldom are their rear fog lamps on too!!!!
Check next...
Atlantic Spray, under the flyover at the end of Penarth Road/Leckiwth is good too mate.
So what happened with the Police? Have they done anything?
I had a terrible ex-girlfriend... made a real mess of me. Anyway, she and her new bloke moved into a shared house together, whereupon she...
You need a specialist to see the whole car mate IMO. I had a similar problem on my old 16V and it turned out to be a blown fuse deep in the electrical system behind the dashboard.
Most 16Vs tend to get modified under the skin only - and Id say a 16V is more of a serious hot hatch fans car than a modifiers car (like a Saxo). Most Williams avoid being modified beyond the most basic breathing mods for obvious reasons and again, the 172, Cup and V6 seem to attract the hot...
I worked at Halfords for 4 years (part time usually, full time in the summer) and I was no novice! OK, so my expertise was bikes - but Halfords provided the training for me to be competent enough to work on parts. Good solid business - but as always, there are some variations in staff. They...
I swap my front and rear tyres over every two months or thereabouts - so they wear more or less at the same rate. Id rather replace all four at the same time. Whats it going to be? £150-300 for a Mk1 liek a Williams/16V. I can live with that.
I can see that if your front tyres were...
Ive used loads of stuff and used to work for Halfords many moons ago, where we were allowed to take stuff home to use it so that we could recommend products with some authority and experience.
I always start with a Halfords car shampoo. Not found a better one yet and Autoglyms is...
I had real trouble finding the original Renault one, so had to get an Arvin replacement one (£60 - not as good as Henry got, but still cheaper than most). Lining the two back boxes up, theres no difference in bore between the stainless one and the original one, although I dont know what the...
I used to have my old 16V lowered about 40mm on original Phase2 wheels and at the time I thought it rocked. The grip was amazing and I made sure that there was still a tendency to oversteer because the front was still lower than the rear.
Since then, Ive acquired a totally standard Willy...
Just fitted one to my Williams (same back box as the 16V). See my other post, but in brief I didnt think it was a step back - pretty good as standard really.
Ive just taken off the stainless back box that came on my Williams when I bought it - and replaced it with a totally standard one.
To be totally honest, there seems to be no drop in performance whatsoever and the noise is about the same as when the stainless back box was on (still quite...
The above technique works well with certain touch-up paints, but not all. My first Clio was metallic grey and this technique worked a treat, but the last Valver I had was black (pearlescent) and the paint would be totally removed by the T-cut/scratch remover every time.
If you get a touch...
Not sure. Would it be something to do with the filler cap area requiring more seams? That would explain rust on the top of the arch, but not on the edges or at the bottom probably.
