Quick Question: 1995 RSi Good Price

Sounds fairly nice, but it is missing the front valance and fog lights - at least £100 if you want them. The thing about the RSi is that it will always be in the shadow of the 16V.

    124,000 mile williams help needed

Williams springs are hard to get hold of - about £100 for the pair from Renault I think.

    Shell Optimax vs BP Ultimate

I dont think there will be much between them - and especially if its going in an old car with knock sensors then there will be minmal performance benefits anyway. I always use the best fuel I can find, but not for tany supposed performance aspects. Lets face it, fuel is a very low margin...

    Question on the 182

AFAIK the 182 will come with a "Cup" suspension option. So it wont be a Cup.

    How much BHP

Its the at the wheels figure that matters (although there will be variation from place to place). Unless youve had the engine out and on a dynometer, it will always be a guesstimate for the at the fly figure. :)

    How much BHP

I had 128bhp at the wheels from my old Valver - it had the breathing mods (nowt special - just an open filter), some head work, cams, a zorst (including de-cat) and a bit of work on the fuelling and chip (not sure what, but it had a Facet valve). I guess 128bhp ATW is about 155+bhp?? Sounds...

    Willy Lookalike

I agree with Alex. I had a 1.2 and spent a lot of time and money making it look nice, although I didnt got for a Williams replica look. At the end of the day it only made me want a Valver or Williams, so I guess it was also a waste of dosh! To be honest, if you had a 205 and wanted to make...

How can I make my Williams faster

A standard Williams will make about 140bhp at the wheels - possibly more, maybe less. It usually equates to a fair bit more than 150bhp at the fly in any case. The main thing is that mileage is kind to the F7 engines and they seem to perform better as the miles pile up! Probably the best...

    De-cat and exhaust question

Im about to complete my Williams by fitting an original exhaust back box instead of the stainless one thats on there at the mo. I know they arent the best, but I just want my Willy to be as the Renault God intended. My only concession is going to be a silenced de-cat pipe (dont want to wear...

help!!!! clio 182 or astra gsi turbo

If youre sinking in your hard earned, then Id steer clear of a brand new car unless I was going to love it and keep it for a long time. The Astra is certainly not special enough to deserve my savings... and is a 182? Not so sure. The way youve got to look at is like "if I lose £4k a...

    Best Renault Ever

Bit Clio biased here, but either: a) Renaultsport Clio Group A rally car (using either the Williams or 16V engine) - shows how good a hot hatch can be; 1.5 seconds per mile quicker than the 5 Turbo Maxi 350bhp Group B car - in 2.0 NA FWD form!!!!:o b) Renaultsport Clio Maxi Group A rally...

    Question to valver owners

I wouldnt hesitate for a moment at the chance of buying a brand new one, but its never going to happen. I always wanted a 16V and loved owning it. Ditto my Williams. People forget that hot hatches werent that popular in the early to mid 1990s and the 16V and Willy wouldnt have been the...

Going to buy a williams 3

I would prefer not to buy a Williams from a trader and spend your time doing some research - perhaps buying one from a club enthusiast like on here. The Willy and 16V are great cars that deserve all their praise, but if you buy a sh*tter youll regret it for ages. For a start, read the 1993...

What would you do if you owned my car

Id pamper it and use it purely as a recreational driving machine (rather than for commuting). That way, youll have all the fun and drive it as was intended, but still keep it in the condition it should be in. Thats what I do! Bike/train a few days a week, Volvo another few - and the Willy if...

    Valver advice

Ive never heard of anything but cosmetic rust on a Mk1 Clio. The rust will be inside the boot lid along the bottom (if at all) and can be stopped with some Kurust. Most Mk1s tend to be about 97%+ perfect in terms of cosmetics. To be honest, it depends on how fussed you are. I take pride...

    A kind of clio depression

Yeah, my Williams will be with me for a long time. In 2030 Ill be the equivalent of the old guys you see in the 1960s cars that theyve obviously kept since then and been through all the grief. I always try to drive other cars or take the train/bike as basic transport and use the Willy for what...

    172 bonnet bulge

The 16V/Williams bonnet bulge was there to make room for the inlet manifold (already reduced in size from the 19 16V one) and to house the air vent. Most people think its an air intake, but its mainly there on the Clio to let the hot air escape - the water catcher/baffle on the inside of the...

    Valver advice

The arches rust from the inside where the rustproofing was not applied in the factory, or gets in between the inner and outer arch panels at the rear wheelarch lips. Not much can be done really except for a really good replacement of the entire rear arch, which is expensive! Dont let that...

    Wanting to Buy a 1.8 16V

Itll be the auxillary drive belt that drives the alternator and so on. Its pretty well hidden on the cambelt side of the engine and can be adjusted on an adjuster pulley. TAKE NOTE!: the adjuster pulley must be untightened with a spanner before using a large hex key to adjust the tension -...

    Williams engine

Bottom ends alone (onto which the 16V head and manifolds slot straight on) tend to go for £400+ at breakers. It depends on whether the seller knows how rare it is to find this sort of thing. A mate of mine got a whole engine for £300 from a local free-ads, manifolds and all - but its more...

    Cup or 172

The Cup was intended as a product for the more discerning enthusiast - as the Williams was. If youre happy paying relatively more (used, at least) for a car with less equipment and will appreciate the extra 10% (?) driving enjoyment that the Cup offers, then go for it. Just my 2ps worth...

    Looking after my willy ;o

I didnt use my old Valver for three months last winter. My main tips would be to make sure you dont put the handbrake on, cover it and not to run the engine without driving the car (i.e. dont idle the engine; take it for a drive if you switch the engine on). Also, disconnect the battery so...

    Just bought a new car

The 19 16V was a very well respected hot hatch (with a saloon and cabrio also!) back in the day. Way better than the Mk3 Golf GTi, but sadly overlooked as the Clio 16V and Williams later got most of the attention and higher residuals. Their low book values mainly reflect the relatively...
