How much are you after for it? Id like to have one because I hope to keep the car until Im old and grey and can revitalise myself by going for a drive in my slow old Williams and listen to an Oasis tape!
Ive got the newly refurbished wheels on my Willy now and Im almost ready to unveil her to the waiting public!
The one thing I want to do is get a standard back box on the car as its got a tacky Prima Racing gold coloured one at the moment. Its meant to be "stainless", but the gold has worn to...
Just wondering what the original spec was on the original batch of 400 RHD cars?
The 1993 brochure states that they came with tape deck and four speakers. My car has a Sony head unit/CD changer and six speakers - and Im thinking of getting an original system back in there.
I reckon the...
By the time youre talking £4k, you could buy, insure and run a GT Turbo or Clio 16V for the same money for a year!
Theres being individual... and theres being stupid! :D
According to BenR, some of the more modern agressive tyre designs arent really suited to the Willys handling characteristics. Im sticking to the original tyres until they wear out, but Id consider some in 195/50/15 size as theres a lot of choice and theyre cheap.
As Im sure you know, its...
The DeCarbon shocks and stiffer springs are unique to the Willy and are highly regarded as standard.
If you just want to tighten things up a bit then you could replace the track rod ends, bushes and anti-roll bar mounts with either new ones or uprated ones (the rubbers will have deteriorated...
Make sure you get the bearing pressed in properly with a Renault tool - otherwise youll get 10k miles max out of the bearing (bitter experience!). Go to Renault or a specialist.
Um... I used to work for Halfords part-time in my youth. Some of the guys there were monkeys, but actually most of them were pretty good in terms of knowledge! (I worked in three different stores too)
Hi mate - I remember your old RT!:D
First of all, the good news is that youre in a good position in terms of retained value wih the Mini.
You might not think so after having spent so much, but £6k is a lot of money and Id encourage you to spend even less and keep a few grand in your back...
If your cambelt snaps in service (as happened to the previous owner of a car of mine), it will bend valves and generally cause havoc. £1500 or so in that case as the F7P 1764cc Clio 16V unit is a fairly advanced piece of kit - exhaust valves will set you back £200+ plus VAT alone!
I just use Renaults own 10/40 semi-synth. Cant be much wrong with going for the original stuff! The cars only done 54k, so theres no need for a thicker oil.
Roughly: Leather £1000, ABS £500, met paint £300.
Pop-up sunroofs were standard on Phase1s from 1992-93 - thereon (inc later P1) they were electric tilt/slide.
My bag is older cars, but I dont think much of the current hot VAG line-up. Good image and damped cupholders etc to impress the chaps at the golf club, but pants where it counts and no soul.
Theres a Clio Cup at work and a new Astra GSi (in a similar shade of blue). The Astra looks a...
Cool Ben. I dont fit tyres myself so Ive got to go to a more expensive tyre place instead of someone like http://www.mytyres.netwww.mytyres.net. (!)
I dont think the Yokos are that good, but they seemed better than most things for £40 a corner (fitted) at the time for the old Valver. So...
My Willy has a set of antique Michelins on at the moment and they look like theyve come to the end of their lives. Since Im having my wheels refurbished over the next few days, now seems like a good time to get some new tyres!
Im going to ditch the 185/55/15 size and go for some 195/50/15s...
I just read all the history bits relating to the Clio and its shockingly inaccurate! "Williams produced by the F1 team etc" type of rubbish.
...and apparently Williams is the sports division of Renault!
Dont want to rubbish the lads efforts, but its just so wrong!
Just buy a Clio 16V and have it as your main car! Youll find a decent Phase1 for about £2,000 or less these days.
As for mods, theres absolutely no problem doing mods to a car with 92k on the clock. I guess youre probably on about filter/zorst (otherwise youre best buying a Valver/doing an...
Ive not had many people try it on really, but its quite hard to tell as part throttle at 2500rpm in the Willy is like full throttle for some cars.
Had one guy in a Rover 200 convertible trying to race me a few days ago and when I ripped past the look on his face was one of complete...
Yeah, I was definitely going for a de-cat since I dont want to fork out for a new cat when that goes one day.
Theres a 1993 Cars & Car Conversions article on the Willy (one of the most thorough and best reviews Ive ever read), in which they recommend a de-cat and using 98ron fuel for another...
The first bit refers to straight-line speed. The second bit refers to country roads.
Basically, the point is that the Willy doesnt feel faster in straight line - but is - and feels faster (and is) down country roads.
Might get a chip... but I am doing my best to keep it 100% original!
