If you want something for the straight-line sprint and its important to win by a car or twos length after you turn up the boost, then stick with the blue oval. If you dont enjoy country roads then steer clear of the 16V.
Take a glance at some early 1990s car magazines and youll see how much...
If the car was registered before 31st December 1992, your car doesnt have to pass stricter emissions tests as part of the MOT. The car will have its emissions tested, but the CO2 threshold is higher. Most modern cars that have no catalyst fitted would pass this with ease.
For cars...
Hey Ralphy - Jeeez! If I wanted to list every warm/hot hatch that was on sale in the 1990s I would!
I wanted to get across the idea that practically no-one was importing mainstream hot hatches to the UK in 1994 apart from Renault. Yes, there were cars like the ZX Volcane (including the TD...
This is a pic of my 16V when it had anthracite wheels (came with the car when I bought it). It looked pretty mean with them on, but I wanted the standard look after a while and got some refurbd originals instead.

They stopped production of the Clio 16V in late 1995: there was a gap of 5 years until the Phase1 172 came along. It was the Megane Coupe that took over as the performance Renault until the 172 arrived, and I expect the new Megane Turbo will do the same until the next hot Clio breaks out.
That was not an original colour for the Valver. Some very early H-reg bottom of the range Clios were available in a yellow (but not that colour) and again in early 1993 (late Phase1).
These 172s need some Valver/Williams clocks for accuracy. They may be made out of herring bone and tin plate, but at least they tell you the true speed youre going!
Im pretty sure theres some truth in the old adage that a car has a personality.
I know that people call their cars "she" and so on, but I really do give my car a pat on the dashboard and say "come on boy, lets go out" to it. Im pretty sure that all my cars have had tantrums on me, but also...
Kind of agree, but Id respectfully suggest that the VTR actually re-opened the XR2/3i warm hatch, mass sales market. There is always a market for homologation specials and hard core hot hatches.
Remember that Renault were pretty much the only manufacturer importing a hard-core hot hatch...
Try adding your mum as a named driver - it dropped my fully comp Williams insurance down from £950 to £750 with Admiral (1 year NCB and Im 23).
I was pleasantly bemused!
The original Williams models were numbered to confirm their status as examples of the 2500 models that were produced to conform to Group N rally homologation rules. The Williams was initially intended for a limited production run of only the obligatory 2500 cars to satisfy these rules in 1993...
All Williams wheels are the same and all have the silver rim - like on my original Williams 1 wheels. The silver rim is just as prominent as in Louises pictures and Lepsons have done a totally authentic job. Remember, the rim is polished, not painted so cant be more or less shiney. If its...
Wow! How did you get the wheels to them?? If I remember correctly, you live around Hereford and Lepsons are in Kent?
Im going to have my wheels refurbished, but dont fancy leaving the car on bricks like I did with my 16V when it had its wheels done.
Cheers guys
Im picking up the car on Friday and will give it a full inspection then. I find it difficult to see that its down to engine wear as the car is on a genuine 54k miles and there were also no oil leaks I could see. Ill change the oil for starters and take it from there. But perhaps...
Does anyone know where I can get a decent set for a Williams (maybe in blue)?
Ive got a set of 1994 dealer mats, but theyre in grey and Id prefer some blue ones. Would blue mats look OK?
Cheers
Maximum power comes at 6750rpm in a Valver, so no wonder the ones you tested felt slow (changing up at 5000rpm). Go have a look at my post under the rally pedigree topic - thatll make you want one again!
OK! Before I start, I have to make clear that there seems to be no single source of authoritative information on the Clio Mk1 rally cars, certainly not in English anyway. What follows is kind of a hash of some info Ive gathered myself over the past few years, so its by no means definitive and...
