I guess that development costs are pretty high and perhaps people who tune new cars are in the minority? (cost, warranty etc) Theres a probably a big market for GT Turbo and 16V tuning gear, which will move towards the 172 when these owners move on as 172 residuals weaken.
Hey hey, I said nowt about the colours being unique to the Willy - in fact I said the opposite! Its the colour combination that is the Willy trademark.
Whether or not its the best is always opinion - but I think youd agree that its considered widely as the best, even if you or I think its...

Williams: The original homologation special, 400 RHD cars, numbered individually and made in late 1993. Basically, Renaultsport took advantage of FIA Rallying rules that allowed engine capacity of up to 2.0 litres when a car was homologated (at the time, they were using the 1764cc Clio 16V as...
I doubt it will be much quicker and in my experience (having owned a tuned 16V) even what we consider a "tuned" car wont be noticeably quicker. If its your bag, then a de-cat and exhaust system make the 16V sound absolutely rally-authentic.
They used to make a 1.9 Dci Clio (mk2, Phase1), but it didnt develop the same figures as the ones now in the Laguna etc. Oh, and btw, just because a 172 engine fits in a Clio doesnt mean anything below a 2.0 will!
I think youve got to just be patient mate. I wasnt fussed whether mine was a 1,2 or 3 and still looked hard for what seemed like ages. Bearing in mind that I had no car at the time, I got really demoralised! There was even one Willy 3 in London that was advertised for £6k but went to sealed...
I was in a similar situation in that I had some dosh burning a hole in my pocket after my planned 2.0 conversion on my old Valver fell through. It seemed the most sensible and cost effective thing was to get a low-mileage Williams with the money I had. Im not dissing 2.0-conversions, but at...
Hi Ant!
I found myself a Willy1 in the end and have got my original dealer mats in there for the sake of originality. You can still just about get the original mats that would have come from the dealers back in 1993 if you pop into Renault. Theyre grey, but they obviously fit the car and...
The Willys DeCarbon shocks have higher damping rates and the front struts have firmer springs. The ride is a lot firmer in a standard Willy (my old 16V had some lowering springs on and it was softer).
They originally intended to use one of the F7 engines from the Willy (F7R) or Clio 16V (F7P).
The deal fell through because Renault got funny and were using the F7R in the then forthcoming Spider.
Just keep a big gap in front of the cars in front at speed and try not to use it a days when the road has been gritted. If theres loads of traffic and Im in the Willy, I pull into the inner lane and stick at 55 with loads of space in front of me. If its rainy or the roads been gritted, I take...

I would never ever ever want to own a williams!! I love my 16v and 16vs in general and i would far...
Autocars did a test on an original Willy with 2000 miles on the clock (barely run in really). They noted that they expected it to free up a lot, as the 16V they tested had. The 16V had also got a better 0-60!
0-60 - 7.7 (they only do 57mph in 2nd)
0-100 - 20.8
30-70 - 6.9
50-70...
What an idiot. They arent - and until youve owned and driven both for years, like me, then I suggest you take your own views with the large pinch of salt that everyone else does.
The other differences are chunkier anti-roll bars, a slightly higher level of rear brake bias, different rate...
Adams - I used to have a tuned 16V and although it wasnt the 170bhp car Id been led to believe, it would make 128bhp on the rollers ATW and pull on standard 16Vs quite well. Ive now had my Williams for a month, so I think I can start to make some comparisions between the two cars.
First...
The F7R engine found its way into early Megane Coupes (Phase1) from about 1996 to 1998 and into the Renault Spider - but not the Scenic! The F4R is found in lots of models and is even supplied to Volvo for their S40 2.0 (I drive one!).
The F7R was first seen in the Williams, but the Willy...
The Clio Valver looks the part with the pumped up arches and bonnet bulge and it could be argued that its a more pure and more precise hot hatch than the 172. On the other hand, the 16V was better equipped and fatter than the GT Turbo was back in the day - so you could have said the same about...
I had a Momo Champion on my old 16V - far better than the standard Willy wheel Ive got now. I think it was made from alcantara and leather and cost £150+. God I miss that old beast of a car.
The Willy has a fairly decent CD stacker and MD head unit in there at the mo. The thing is that it really needs an amp/better speakers to be any good - and I dont want to fork out for all that as Id never get the benefit from it (I prefer open windows and the sound of the beast;)). I also dont...
My pressure gauge reads between 0 and 1 all the time. I think the sensor is fooked as the car only has 55k on the clock and it only shows 1bar when the engine is stone cold!
I can live without the pressure gauge, but Im going to do it anyway. Where is it and how do I get it ou?
Cheers!
Cool - I look forward to seeing it in the flesh!
Got my wheels back from the refurbishers today and so I took my Willy out - Im still learning how to handle it after coming from the old 16V. Id been driving my Volvo S40 2.0 for the past few weeks and was taken back by how the Willy feels...
