Yeah GirlRacer- I love to have a go at Audis alright! But first of all I never tailgate people and secondly I dont have a Cup!
The closest race I ever had was in the summer, while I was in Edinburgh for a while. There was this L-reg Audi 80 estate on my tail and I was obviously wanting me to...
Cant see me ever selling mine. Just isnt worth it in terms of the love, time and expense my 16v has had.
Oh, and they dont make em like they used to you know. Have you seen a manufacturer make another wide-arch, bonnet scooped, homologated car recently?
Well, Ive just driven Loftys 2.0 Williams converted 16v - and I hope hell take me up on my invitation to drive my tuned 16v some time soon, when Ive got the wheels back from being refurbished.
From the persepctive of actually owning a 170bhp 16v and having driven Loftys Willy-engined Clio...
OK, cheers people. Seem to have come to the conclusion between us that the rotating and sticking is normal. The car never mades clicks of full lock, so I doubt its the driveshafts.
But that still leaves the gearbox hum! Its still there when I coast with the car out of gear - does that...
Cheers guys. I dont think its a wheel bearing as I had all of them replaced about 10k miles ago, when I also had the discs and pads done.
I guess it could be the gbox, but Ive had no trouble selecting gears and it was overhauled about 20k ago. The diff is new too.
What are the symptoms...
Yes. Me, Ben R and Lofty. I think Ihavea16v is also from these parts.
I used to be the rep for this area, but the Police thought I was a crusie organiser and came down on me heavily (another story). So theres now another area rep for Bristol and Im the South Wales rep - but I dont think...
My car is on axle stands at the moment, while the wheels are away being refurbished. I decided today to start the engine and let it idle for a while as I havent driven the car in a few weeks.
When I did this, I noticed that the driveshaft started turning by itself - rotating the discs in...
My gbox is on 96k and my flatmates didnt go until 128k. And neither of us drive like a girlie susan!
Once a car like the 16v, 205 GTi or GT Turbo get over ten years old, youll see that there are sh*tters that go for £500, but the original and loved ones will always make over £3k. So...
Use a flat blade screwdriver. Its easy peasy - there are two small holes each side of the lens, which you stick your screwdriver in to release the lens.
Your engine as it is will go on for as long as you want it to*
*(subject to terms and conditions, loving maintenance and lot of cash)
Having said that, Ive heard of Renault 19 16vs with 250k on the clock - basically the same engine as the Clio 16v. I really dont think that 90k is a point...
I agree. Since its the weight of a 172, but with the power of a 16v, it will beat neither.
The current 206 GTi is the first bum Pug GTi so far. The 106 GTi, 205 GTi and 306 GTi/Rallye were all fab - so this is an extra disappointment.
Older 16vs can be real dogs if theyve not been looked after. They cost a lot to repair and maintain. Meanwhile, a mint J-plate would easily be knocking on the door of £3k.
Parkers will tell you about £2500. But they also say that an equivalent Williams will be £3500. Most mint 16vs and Williams make well over that - becuase people will pay for a good one - just look at how much a mint Williams will fetch! Id say advertise at £3500-4000.
Unbelieveably: Group 12!
A VTS is group 14. I guess they released the 16v to a market where premiums were starting to get sky high for hot hatches in the early 1990s, so it had to have low insurance to be competitve.
Barry D is totally correct.
I wonder if people will look back at Clios like the 16v, Williams, 172, Cup, V6 and so on - and remember them all. Because there were a lot of sporting 5s over the years apart from the Phase 2 GT Turbo!
If you choose to race things at low revs and up a hill in a Valver then you deserve to lose for being stupid! Jeeezzz, I mean these cars just dont get moving until 5000rpm and a tuned NA one (Im assuming cams, porting etc like me) wont show the extra power until 5000-6000rpm.

Have a look at my page - tells you a bit more about the 16v and the Williams (basically what the Cup is to the 172 - but a bit more special). Read more about it here...
