The current Clio (1998 on) is a Mk2 Clio - and a Phase 2. Just like the Mk1 Clio (1991-98) had a Phase 1, 2 and 3.
The Mk1 Phase 3 Clio looked a fair bit different from the Phase 1 and 2 (e.g. bumpers, bonnet, some engines etc) - but its still a Mk1 because under the skin its more or less...
Its 60% car, 40% driver as a rule of thumb. For a straight-line sprint the ratio tips in favour of the car; in a B-road tussle the ratio tips in favour of the driver.
Its an engine out job, so £250 is reasonable. The lowest Ive ever been quoted for the engine out is £200, so another £50 for the clutch fitting isnt bad.
I used to have my Cliosport sticker on the passenger side rear window, so people only saw it when I would be pulling away from them!
Now, the only Cliosport sticker I have is under the bonnet.
OK - this is how it goes with the Clio Mk2 range, but be warned - its confusing:
The Mk2, Phase 1 (i.e. 1998-2001) model Clios initially came with a choice of 1.2 8v, 1.4 8v, 1.9 non-turbo diesel and 1.6 16v engines. Trim was offred in RL, RN, RT and "16v" (a warm hatch - but not a Mk1 16v...

Most high performance Renault engines can vary quite wildly in terms of power output. If you pick up the latest Performance GTi magazine, then youll see that most of the standard Williams on a rolling road day made 140bhp at the wheels - which probably equates to a fair bit more than the quoted...
I see! And its the sort of thing that stops binding? My nearside rear brake binds at low speeds, though its kind of like the noise you get if you have a ding in your bicycle wheel as the pad runs over that part of the rim. I guess it could be a warped disc...but I didnt think my rear brakes...

Renault quoted 0-60 in 7.7 secs for the Mk1 Clio 16v. The only test Ive ever seen was in 1991 by Autocar - that gave it 0-60 in 7.4.
**The 1998-2000 Clio 16v (a 1.6 16v 110bhp first called the "16v", then "RSi" when the Phase 1 172 came out and now the "1.6 Dynamique" in Phase 2 shape) was...

Well, Ive got the upmost respect for the 106 GTi - it was the first hot hatch to get anywhere near the Valver in performance terms and the only one worth racing. Obviously then the 172 came along, but the 106 GTi design is a fair bit older.
There are only about 1200 Williams in the UK, so your best bet is to look for an early 2.0 Megane engine, because its the same engine and there are more 2.0 Meganes about. Be careful though, because they stopped using the F7R 150bhp 2.0 in the Megane after a while, and started using the 140bhp...
The steering wheel is a Momo Champion. I used to work in Halfords as a part-time job, and I managed to wangle that for £70 instead of £160! Its got dark grey/black suede on the top and bottom of the rim, but the leather bits at the centre of the wheel are definitely black. I guess the top of...
