Well, Ive got the upmost respect for the 106 GTi - it was the first hot hatch to get anywhere near the Valver in performance terms and the only one worth racing. Obviously then the 172 came along, but the 106 GTi design is a fair bit older.
The steering wheel is a Momo Champion. I used to work in Halfords as a part-time job, and I managed to wangle that for £70 instead of £160! Its got dark grey/black suede on the top and bottom of the rim, but the leather bits at the centre of the wheel are definitely black. I guess the top of...

I "raced" a 172 Mk2 on the motorway between the Scottish Borders and somewhere near Preston about six months ago - for about 100 miles! We were both being very polite and sensible about it though - no dangerous stuff. Ironically, I was on my marathon drive for the big Southend summer meet...
Well GR - there you have it! Thats the Maxi! Ill be keeping my car in the pearlescent black if I got ahead with it, but no spoiler for me - I like my car subtle.
I notice that the third picture of the standard Valver with the open bonnet on the link above to Colins webpage is none other...

Id try and get hold of an old Autocar in-depth test - the ones where they do rolling starts and so on. I doubt that say a 20-50 test would be as impressive as its 0-60 times.
And the F7R/P engines do vary a lot - Ive seen a Meganes 2.0 F7R make 110bhp at the wheels and a 19 16vs F7P make...
Not sure...
I used to get 60mph out of 3,000rpm in 5th on my 16/205/45 wheel/tyre combo, but now its more like 57mph on the original wheels with 15/195/50 tyres I put on recently.
I think it would be about 4,500rpm in 5th for about 95mph with mine - which is when I can safely leave it in...
Nothing has really, really impressed me except for the car. It does exactly what it says on the tin!
Anyway, apart from that, I defintely buy most Autoglym things again (especially the leather care cream) and I think my Pioneer head unit was a good buy (a 6300 I think? - got it cheap).

As Nick says, in the early-to-mid 1990s, the Clio 16v-based Maxi was pushing the FWD concept further and further. On the tarmac and gravel stages, it was coming close to the 4WD turbo nutters such as the likes of the Escort Cosworth, Evo 2 and Scooby - but not close enough.
So in 1993...
Mines the one with brown in it. One of my old MOTs even has the colour of the car as "Brown"!
I dont know why, but most colours for most cars have up to ten different shades.

I have a Clio 16v "Barbour". It was a rare example of the 16v that came complete with green leather seats, beige corduroy door inserts and dash trim, Yorkshire weave steering wheel and gearknob and a standard-fit Collie dog net in the back.
The 172 is obviuosly in their league in terms of "hot-hatchedness".
But in terms of segments, I think Im right in saying the Clio is a B-segment car and those above are C-segment (i.e. next car up). Some magazines that just attract casual readers do their tests on that basis.
I guess...
