That top road your talking about yeah it's utter shite these days
I live in the south end of Lincoln so these days do the back roads through woodhall spa and that direction - still some good roads
I do remember the friday/saturday night blasts to skegvegas on that top road though - was...
Are you sure???
Fred said that I could extend the cup column to meet that twingo rack but even with the column in the vice I couldn't get that bottom knuckle joint to slide at all - even with a hammer and pipe grips
The 1.2 16v column I got you can slide the bottom knuckle easily
I'm not 100%...
Not sure what you mean by big plug
Theres a wide 16 pin plug - you don't need that
Then 2 x 2 pin plugs with power/earth leads
One of those you need as you need to wire it to a battery feed with a 60a fuse
The other comes on a cable from the EPAS motor
It's the middle plug you need :-
And...
Yes. Interesting point there - get a column without an ignition barrel, or get the key because you have to put the key in and turn to position 1 to unlock the barrel from the column LOL
I found out the hard way - had to drill the locking ping out of the barrel on mine as it had no key
You...
What kit did you use?
The slow mo stuff looks a bit juddery - is it software faked or actually recorded at 60/120fps?
The gopro stuff is nice
You could do with a steadi rig for the hand held stuff
Nice editing though and better than some of the "pro" vids I've seen haha
Stop making the site look all maxpower/flashy/funky and just put something up
Show is in 3 months and no-one can book tickets...
Are you responsible for the new performancefrenchcars website too? Cos that's been "coming soon" for 6 months :(
Unfortunately everything always seems to be done by "mates" of the directors and the website is always s**t
The forum died on http://performancefrenchcars.co.uk/ last year, I offered to fix it for them as I'm a bit handy with vbulletin for obvious reasons lol, heard nothing back. It's still...
When they announced the stupid idea of going to Combe I pretty much declared myself out of the pre-planning. Said it would be a disaster as no-one wants to drive that far for a fairly "boring" circuit and a load of grass fields
Sadly looks like my prediction was right - still no ticket...
Yeah that's actually my favourite thing - having the engine off but ignition on and full assisted steering
Can push it around the yard/pits now without firing it up all the time.
The only noise you hear is a loud click when the relay in the ecu turns the EPAS on and off - other than that...
Feels really good - with it on max it's very light and smooth, with it off there is a ton of feedback through the wheel - loads of adjustment inbetween
I think with a bit of trial and error on track I should be able to find the perfect amount of assistance without losing feedback
You cant...
You mean no assistance at all?
No - not at all. It's ludicrously heavy. Anything less than 10mph and I can barely move the steering.
The DCi rack is pretty quick and I have 205 tyres which might make it worse, but my car is also 100-200kg lighter than a normal cup lol
There was a thread about the rears seizing/rusting up - but it got removed as Sir_Dave said
The general feedback from Spax/re-sellers was that this is a race setup so stop winging :(
Picked the cable up on my way home - cost £18 in the end.
Wired it up, wired a switched 12v feed from the ignition barrel and wired the earth up to one of the main earth points on the dashboard bar
Worked first time :D
On the highest setting it's easily as light as with the old PAS - but...
Well I dropped my wiring measurements off at the auto electrician this morning - he says the existing power/earth cables are only around 32/36amp rated. So he found some cable one size bigger than standard said it was rated to continuous 50a - I said the fuse was 60a so surely that won't be...
I've properly gone off gopro these days
Sony bring out a better/cheaper camera - it gets MUCH better reviews than the gopro 3 - so gopro start suing websites and sending DMCA orders to remove the reviews.
w*****s
Maybe they should spend less money on advertising with Ken Block and...
You need the full column as I don't believe you can swap just the top part
Also it would be an utter nightmare as the top part is totally inaccessible lol
It's a bit of a pain but you undo the pin on the rack, push the rubber through into the car, undo 4 13mm bolts holding the column on...
I've seen a few places offering unencoding for the Mk3 PAS ECU's so it does sound like some are locked
That's a bit of a pain if the ECU goes and you have to replace the whole column lol
French cars... who'd have em eh? ;)
I'm doing cadwell on an evening session 15th May - I'm pretty excited as lots of people say it's very suited to Clios :D
The French Trophy looks very tempting - I think I'm going to have a summer playing around with mine on track days to get the geometry and everything setup but also swap my...
You get a very good wiring instruction manual with the box off ebay - the wiring is actually easy
Removing the old rack is a b**ch and getting the EPAS column in without removing the bottom half of the dash is VERY fiddly.
I had to remove the motor (2 bolts) then fit it - then put the motor...
Should be Will. After I bought my rack from renparts I actually noticed a few new/refurbed ones on ebay LOL
But mine was only £25 and it's smooth as silk so should be ok. It's handy knowing I can replace it for a brand new rack at any time for £60 though
I'm also quite convinced it's a quicker...
Did a bit more on this today
Took some pics of what I've already done too
Column fitted..
The EPAS ECU does indeed slip straight onto a bracket behind the dash :D
Really happy about this as it's secured with an m6 screw and won't be rattling around
Control nob fitted - I...
