I was using multiple workspaces in various window managers years ago.. I just didn't have a cube rotating and taking longer than an instant to get me to my desired workspace :p
XGL/Compiz is very nice.. when I was showing...
All routers have their failings until you start looking at high-end business models. (and even then, they have their issues :p)

Depends what OS the "server" was running and it's configuration, but yes, it can be done.
Windows server OS's, for example, have auditting, which can log success/failure of object access for example (amongst other things)

Yea, Parallels works quite well.. next version is supposed to have 3D acceleration in it I think?

Yea, HP laptops are nice.
Infact, I work with a lot of manufacturers (laptops, servers, pcs) and I reckon HP is about the best all round.. not the cheapest, but probably right up there in terms of quality.
Dell are quite good too..
